just picked up a kyosho FW-05. which motor would you guys recommend for racing. I currently have a ntc3 w/ OS .12 cv-r and will be racing that for now until the fw-05 is ready. I just started to race, so any help would be useful.

I have been hearing great things about the Hpi Nitro star PRO 12R xs engine (Normal shaft/non-pullstart) rear exaust rated @ 1.35 Hp, i picked one up myself but have not had the chance to break it in yet (bad weather) Hpi has great support and custmor service so i would reccomend this mill to anyone looking for a powerful inexpensive mill. btw this mill was intended for a direct fit for the hpi r-40. it is a racing engine. once i break mine in and tune her in, ill post a thread and give ya a review of what i think of this engine

hope that helps

Hey zoeybadm... Trinity Sirio .12 Sandard Racing Engine SG Style Crank? Is this right? A ROAR legal .12 making 1.8hp for only $160?! Am I missing something? That sounds like one hell of a deal. 3 needles.. is that hard to tune?

I have a question about standard and SG cranks.. If a car comes with a standard crank motor, there is no way a SG crank motor can work on the car? I see the difference in threads on the cranks, but I don't understand the reason for it.

No, you are not missing anything. I have that exact motor in my Trinity Reflex Team Only and the thing flat out hauls. After break in the tuning is the same with any other mill and so far the mill holds a tune well.

When I was told about the mill having 1.8hp for $160 I asked the same question...I was like wtf? Why doesn't everyone run these mills.

To answer your last question. If the crank is too long you have to cut the crank which is what I had to have done to my OS .12 CVr motor so it would fit in my RC10GT. My local LHS did not charge anything for cutting the thread. Hope this helps and have fun!

Once I burn up this lousy stock 12R SS, I'll probably get that engine. That thing sounds like a screamer and a super deal for $160.

Thanks for the info.

Zoey, I just noticed something. That link I posted to the "ROAR legal 1.8hp .12" engine shows a pic of an engine with .21 on the head...

So is the description wrong and that 1.8 hp is from a .21 or is the picture just wrong. I'm thinking the description should say its a .21 and not a .12 because 1.8 hp still sounds like a lot.

HERE is the ROAR.12, but the horsepower isn't listed...

I don't trust much of what Tower has listed. I was just wondering exactly what engine you had in your Trinity.

the pic is wrong but the power numbers are accurate. I have other mills rated at 1.3 hp and the Sirio mill flat out whips the ass of the other mills on the straight. I have never hooked up ny of my mills to a dyno but I believe the numbers are accurate. For the price I have yet to find a mill with that much power. I like the motor, it screams, holds a tune well, and was relatively cheap. I would buy another one in a heartbeat if that means anything to you.

Um, actually the NS12S3 is rated at 1.52hp.

back on topic. If you're about racing, then first off, you're only gonna be able to use 3 port non-turbo .12's. So the .15 and .18's are out.

Also, you gotta think about the track you'll be running at. The S3 is a great short track engine since the powerband hits REALLY low, but it won't work as well on a large track with big straightaways since it really doesn't have a lot of top end rpm (contrary to what people think)

So my question, what kind of track will you be running at?

Yes it does. I was just skeptical of a .12 making almost 2 hp. That's pretty wild! For $160, I will definitely buy the motor when this one burns up and give it a try... if my RS4 even accepts rear exhaust engines.. this is all a little down the road from now, so I can worry about that later. I'll probably have to stock up on dog bones though, RS4s suck.

Thanks for the info, it's been very helpful.

The two best motors out there & are roar legal are the RB Rody roam & the Mugen x12 I run each of them on my 710 & there ballistic or you can get a jp modifed if your going to spend big bucks.

its not 1.8 hp.
i dont know where ya got that info but the hp of the standart engine.

the engine has 1.52 hp and comes with sg crank or standart crank.
the outlaw version of it what isnt roar legal has 1.6 hp.

yes it does. i got a rear exhaust in mine. you just need to buy extra parts to make it work.

you want to race your car? if not go with a 15 engine from teamtrinity
like i said in the post above. the 12 engine you guys talking about isnt near the 1.8 hp. it is 1.52.
the standart 15 engine from trinity sirio has 1.7. i recommend that one if ya just use your car for bashing.

dont know how you got your setup. but they dont suck at all. if ya brake stuff aight must be your own fault.

i got the car setup on a setup board and when i race it now it doesn't even brake out. and iam using a pro race engine rear exhaust with high hp.
maybe it is my saleen s7 body on top that produces high downforce, but the car sticks to tha road and beats all other bashers.
