save up another 20-30$ & get an OS brand engine......easier on tuning having good power & is easy to get parts for......whatever ya do, dont get a wasp.........they are a @@@$#%$%)((*!!!! to keep tuned & running......

what are other good brands of bigblok engines in the 150-200$ range......I've allways used OS engines on everything other than that agervatin wasp i bought......

STS 28, LRP 28 spec 3 orOS 30. ALl have different rpm ranges . ate the engines with a decent pipe.

Picco .27 is a beast of an engine for around $150. VERY easy to tune and power to spare.

I heard alot about the SH.28 being awesome too. You can get one on ebay for like $129.99.
Also heard that Picco's scream!

SH 28 $98
STS 28 $105
STS 30 $135
XTM 24.7 Pro $120

Those are all fairly decent engines. I have the SH 28 in my savage, but I haven't run it much. I've only put 1/2 gallon through it. I bought it used for $35... It fires up on the first or second pull every time I do run it. It seems to hold a tune pretty well. I don't run it much because I need to regear. I'm running 15/52 and it's way to powerful for that. I just bought 16/49 but I haven't installed it yet. With 15/52, I can't even try to drive it on grass or pavement. A slight touch of the throttle and it's on it's roof.

sure he can find an engine under 150.00 but the choices that some of you are giving him are going to cost him way over that once he starts breaking parts all the time. a savage 25 doesn't have heavy duty stuff, like spider gears or dogbones etc. any of those engines would start to brake all this. if he is stock he should run something like the sts 21, that is still faster than the stock 25 engine without compromising performance or costing too much $$$.
at the end is all up to what do you want to achieve.

Most of the parts for the X are interchangeable with the one you have. If you start to trash parts its not that expensive to get the upgraded stock parts or if you choose you can spend more and go after-market.

The STS .30 was released not long ago. I hear good things about them but they are still new on the market.
