Went into my closest hobby shop today looking for a starter belt and handheld starter to fit my oldschool ops 21. He basicly told me that using a starter and belt to turn the motor was ancient technolagy, he tried to describe to me a newer method but he made no sense lol anyway! Is there a better starting system upgrade for older motors or do only the newer style motors allow easier starting?
Also what ahould i expect to pay for a handheld starter and belt? My ops is a water cooled marine engine.

He's probally going to try to sell you a new engine w/pull start get a sullivan starter bout $25 go get the thickest round vacuum cleaner belt you can find it will work great. Now for my next suggestion it looks to have 5inch rails in it after you play with it a while get yourself a 26cc zenoa gas engine they have a pull start on them and running 2cycle gas mix is a hell of a lot cheaper than glow fuel the conversion wouldn't be that much work.Thats $30gal vs $4gal sounds like more fun already.Years ago many many i raced nitro boats expensive pain in the ass to keep tuned.I recently am building a 5ft V Hall and am going gas for the ease of tuning and expense.:D

I agree with Bill on the starting method, it's the only way short of buying a new engine with a pull start (not recommended due to the extended WOT rpm) As for dropping in a 26cc gasser, I'm not sure if you have the room, how long is the boat? do you know where the COG should be? those are two major questions that need to be answered. I started in the hobby with nitro boats, then got out for a few years, then got back into it with the bigger 4'+ gassers. Gas is definitely easier and cheaper then nitro, especially when you run the good stuff, 60% nitro lol.

Thanxs for the advice guys. I am going to buy a handheld starter :) I think the hull would be abit small for a gasser measuring only 80cm from nose to Tail and 26cm wide. I have also checked and the motor is set up at the correct point of gravity. I have messed around with zenoah gassers, i have previously converted a ops 90 scarab into a zenoah and they are great fun. Personaly i love nitro and am also thinking about getting a nitro buggy or two later on down the track to build on my rc collection :)

I think that may be a little small, I have a 37" AC Model Boats wave slave I was looking to switch over to gas, kinda like trying to put a 500ci V8 engine into a smart car lol. I think that .21 should push that 31.5" boat with ease, if not go with a OPS/Picco/OS .40-.45 and you will have way more then enough. Do you have a lid for the boat? If not then I would try and come up with a cover that will act like an umbrella over the carb, one drop of water can quench the coil shutting off the engine, if it's a good drop that gets in there, you run the risk of bending the rod due to hydro-locking. Make sure you get some video, I'm curious to see this thing rip :)
