Looking at getting setup for the beach in the next couple weeks. What's a good setup? Last year I tried zip ties on my stock slash. They worked ok. I think my problem was I was using a stock motor and only a 3600 6-cell.

What do you guys use for your setups? Thanks.

what did you do with the zipties? :)

pair of paddle tyres might be good for the drive wheels

might think of putting some filter over motor's holes to reduce dust getting in.

all-stock &/or waterproof electronics are great, just rinse in plain water at run's end
to wash off all the salty dust. Oilup the steel shafts/screws/parts to stop rust.

I used the zip ties around the tires to give me grip. A poor mans version of paddle tires. I have the RPM motor cover to reduce sand getting to the motor. I usually wash it down as soon as I get back and then spray it down, dry it out in the sun and then hit the metal parts with WD40.

they worked pretty good unless I hit something with the tires. then the zip ties would break off. I found when I used them as snow tires that the zip ties tended to break off pretty easily due to the cold. It was more of a pain then anything else. I would rather change the wheels out each time.

that is true, nylon gets brittle in the cold

hey what about whippersnipper cord?
could wind some fancy macrame around tyre, should be hardwearing :)

last time i ran on beach i just bolted on the widest tyre i could find,
something off a 2.2" truck works good enough.

I haven't heard of whippersnipper cord before. Where do you get something like that?

hardware store, gardening supplies or maybe your "Home Depot" if you're a yankee :)

whippersnipper = brushcutter = weedwhacker

the ones that spin a piece of nylon string to cut the grass

That would probably work better than the zip ties. That material is meant to stand up to wear and tear.

Ran my Slash on Saturday at the beach with the rear paddles and ribbed front tires. Had a blast roosting sand all over the place. There was a guy with another Slash running stock tires out there as well. Even on the damp packed sand, he could not hang with the paddles. He did manage to do a lot of cool donuts which I could not do without flipping.

I also have to give a bigs thumbs up to the Outerwears shroud. it did a fantastic job keeping the sand out of the chassis area and away from the ESC fan. You could not tell I even ran it by looking at the top of the chassis after I was done.

You NEED Sand paddles for the beach, the 2wd is even more (If possible :P ) Uncontrollable on the sand without them. :)
