A good investment is Traxxas's trx power pack which is a five cell rechargable battery that comes with a charger. It gives me WAY longer run times!:D

I think a typical hump pack will fit in the maxx battery box. If you get a decent charger, you can use it to charge your 7.2V ez-start, glow heater (if used), receiver and transmitter. As long as you get proper adapters. Using a 6V NiMH receiver pack will make your servos faster/stronger than running 4 alkalines.

This one is fairly cheap and will charge 1-8 cells:
MRC 960 $50: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXRST9&P=ML

I have the older 959 model and use it to charge all my stuff, including just NiMH AA's I have for my camera and whatnot.

An octopus like this will cover most things:

This will do for the heater: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSGN7&P=7

This one includes the glow, but not the transmitter:
