Hello all, i was wondering if it is OK to plug in any battery into the receiver instead of having to always buy/replace AA batteries?

specifically, i want to put a 7.4 2200 mAh lipo with 20C continuous into my RC, except i am worried something may explode. Do i have to consider anything when choosing a battery? or is any battery OK ?

thanks in advance

~ i just got an ancient (i think) cox hobbies Bandido from my uncle who found it in a dusty box in his attic

You can run a LiPo for your receiver,I do in one of my trucks. You do need either upgraded high voltage servos or a voltage regulator to cut the power down for the standard servos. Also I use one that is sized to fit the battery box on most rigs.

Most people run 5-cell NiMH receiver packs and have no issues doing so. I have been thinking of using the newer LiFE battery packs in my Baja since they are 6.6v and don't really need a regulator or high voltage servos. I found a 3200 mAH 2s LiFE RX pack for about $55.
