I know the mah rating of a battery is supposed to be the capacity, but I have noticed that the higher the mah's are, the better the performance seems to be. My buddy and I have identical 14.4 E Maxx's. I ran 3000 venoms for a while and he ran a couple cheap Shark packs(1500's). Obviously, mine would smoke his. Then he picked up a couple 3800's from allbattery.com(Tenergy cells), and his ripped wheelies in high! Broke a rear drive shaft as well. We swapped packs for the next run,(he ran my venoms, I ran his 3800's) and mine ripped wheelies in high. After charging, they both read about 8.5 volts, but we have no way of measuring the amps. Do higher mah's inherently kick out more amps(or what ever makes one pack faster than another)? Just curious about our observations.

Yes, as the pack capacity increases, the maximum potential current output is also increased. In most cases the result is higher top speed and more "punch" performance.

Could this affect esc's or motors. I figure 5000 nimh's were pretty rare when the E Maxx first came out, though I don't remember. I would like to have my old maxx as punchy as possible. Should I be concerned with putting to much juice to it with modern, high capacity batteries?

I wouldn't be concerned with putting very high capacity packs in your rigs. I would use caution however, when increasing the pack voltage. Always check the ESC's maximum rated voltage input.

Sure. I learned the hard way about volts years ago. When I was about 8-9, I taped a tiny 12 volt motorcycle battery to the body of my blackfoot. With the msc. I'm sure you could just imagine how that turned out. Back to the point, cool. A couple 5000's should make the old maxx a fun little basher. Though I need to ditch the locker in the rear(got it that way).
