RC Driving Style
Here it goes, 1st time owner and driver. Followed the step to break in the new motor. On the 4th tank of gas I decide to take it for a drive. Not fast about 1/8 to 1/4 gas. next thing I know the batteries feel out and the car is gone. Full speed down the street right into a parked car. Damage= Broken "A" arm Body history ( Wanted to see what it would look like with the body on). Now I had the battery strap with a wire tie. The only thing I could think of is that the cut the wire tie. What do you guys use to hold in your batteries??

What kind of vehicle is this? Does it not have a battery box?

This is why you should install a Throttle Return Spring (TRS). The TRS will pull the carb shut when their is no power to the servo or if the servo linkage comes un-hooked.

:OMG: It is a Smarttech Winner Pro. I know I know.. Not the best choice. But I think it will work for now. And no it does not have a battery box. I need to check into this TRS. Thanks

A lot of guys (including me) use a couple of sturdy zip ties to hold battery pack wherever you want on the chassis. This happens most often because rechargeable Nimh battery packs usually won't fit in the original battery box. The beauty of the zip ties is that you can mount the battery pack almost anywhere to help balance the truck. Just make sure everything (wiring, battery pack, etc.) is neat and super-solid, as these things take a beating. :hammer:

I had a runaway TTR EK4 (with the .70 motor) to a bad receiver, that cost me a bunch of money. So a failsafe is always a good idea. Additionally, if you do nothing else, at least use a return spring, setup so that it has enough ooomph to return the throttle to idle if the power goes off.

I use 2 sided tape to stick it to the chassis and 2 nice sized zip ties. I get crazy and never have this problem.

FAIL SAFE

A fail safe would have done nothing. The batteries fell out. The fail safe only works if you have power. This is why a TRS would have saved the car.

But, you should have both.

FAIL SAFE

Isn't this seen as ONE word? LOL

Anyways this should be used in conjunction woth a Throttle Return Spring as if the batteries are dead or fall out then the failsafe is rendered useless as it uses the receiver to power it up.
