Ball Diff 101

I just rebuilt my brother's old Tamiya King Cab. Awesome machine, I forgot how well it was build and how well it WENT!

I have a problem though. The diff at the back is a ball diff, which I rebuilt carefully according to the instructions. Problem is I can't stop it slipping. I assume ball diffs are supposed to be 'limited slip', I think mine's slipping rather too much. When I hit the power to pull away it's pulling off like a nitro with a weak slipper clutch : The wheels aren't even turning when it gets stuck in the grass which is mighty annoying.

I did put a tiny bit of grease in it, but only a whisper. I guess that's gotten out and oiled the diff up. What do you guys suggest using for it? I think Tamiya gave out special diff grease with the original kit but that's long-gone as the truck is almost 15 years old. What do you guys recommend?

It's what I use on my AE RC10T3 diff, I am not sure but on mine the diff is not supposed to slip, it has an external slipper clutch which is probably not the case with your brothers truck....

can't torque it down? In my 1/18 stuff i would just snug up the center bolt that connects both sides of the diff. the ones the thrust balls sit around.
