Well, first my ntc3's wheel nuts were coming off like crazy, but now my mbx-5 caught the disease. I brought my MBX-5 to Arizona for this holiday weekend to race, and it was sweet. I came in 2nd out of 6 in the qualifiers, and 3rd in the main..... It was pretty good for pretty much my first time racing, but I couldve definitally gotten maybe 1st and 2nd if my stupid wheel nut(s) didnt come loose in the middle of the race, and if my car started correctly at the start of the race. I had to get my car off the track, (luckily i had 1 spare nut! :D) put my wheel back on, and tighten all 4 to make sure. I'm not good with nuts

Total damage for the day;

-1 lost wheel nut
-Broken pipe spring (goes around the engine)
-Lost pipe attatchment
-Broken nose of my body (was already cracked) my body then acted as an air brake, I was cracking up in the stands.
-Blown rear outdrive---i have no clue..... Its the pin and the insides of the hole where the outdrive and the rear drive shaft connect. happened litterally 5 mins before first race (of course). Nothing some little random ofna pins from the hobby shop and some electrical tape count fix! :D lasted for 2 1/2 races!

My day was pretty good, my brother got to race his EB4-S3 a little but he was having clutch and tuning issues... He couldnt clear the huge double (of course he wants a new engine now

Loctite again, hmmmm... Why had this never happened before?!!! Sorry if this is pretty much the same question guys. I thought there might be a different solution with the buggy wheel nuts than the little ntc3 ones.

Well the NTC3 nuts are different. They have a nylon or teflon that actually meets the axle instead of aluminum like the 1/8th scale. Try replace the nuts but check the axle threads to see of they are stripped.

how tight are you putting them on? Also, are you scuffing the area on the rim that the nut makes contact with? I've done that to every 8th scale rim that I run, and haven't lost a nut yet.

Now, a tire comin off the rim... THOSE I've had plenty of.

my lhs has some special nuts that have a o ring inside them and they act like a lock washer but only a lot bigger(buggy and 23mm i think) i have to go there and see what the name brand is when i do i will let you know

Now thats a good idea.... That sounds like it would work really well. I'm going to try that. I'm putting them on as tight as they will possibly go.

I usually just 'snug' them up. Get them finger tight, then about 1/8 to 1/4 additional turn to tighten ought to hold 'em just fine.

Course, as with any other fitting on a nitro car, ya have to check 'em after every run.

I wonder if an external Tooth lock washer would help.. I'll have to try it out..

i went to the lhs and found out that they do not make them for 8th scales but they only make them for 23mm hubs sorry

Well, I tighten them as tight as they can possibly go, and they get loose at around 3/4 of a tank. I'm waiting on 2 new sets of tires (that shouldve been here last friday.... :censored: ) so ill wait to do the loctite.

Have you tried scuffing the rims where the nuts contact slightly? Just enough to make 'em slightly ruff.

I found a great solution to this problem too....PLUMBERS TAPE....just wrap your axle every few times you remove your wheel....the trick is to pull the tape tight as you wrap the axle and only do it once......it's great because you don't have to worry about loc-tite not drying in time before a race....and the stuff is real cheap (99 cents a roll)

Yes... teflon tape works really well! I use it to seal the fuel filter on my CR and CRT... it helps stop the air leaks I have with those particular filters.
