i have an sc10 got it at christmas. it hasnt even been ran to many times. from the verry first time i ran it i noticed a slight grinding nose. it sounds like a gear is being shredded to pieces and everytime i run it gets worse and louder. i took my tranny apart this week and found nothing! the spur gear is great the tranny is great gear mesh is good...wat could be making the noise?

hmm since you say the trans seems perfect my only guess would be the spur or pinion gears .

no motor swap ?

if not that sound is perfectly fine every truck makes that noise .

Your SC10 should have came with instructions and a pack of differential shims. This information comes from Team Associated Customer Support. It is likely this is your problem. My SC10 did the same thing, as did most that I've heard about. Learning to shim a differential is something everyone should know how to do, so the good in all this is that you will be able to apply this skill to your other rigs.

Let us know if this doesn't help and we will go from there.

OK GUYS AND GALS, here is what was found out from our R&D department.

The material that the diff gears was to be made up off was changed to beige type material we have in the kits and the material cools differently, and sometimes when the part (ie:gear) cools after being molded it could have an extra hundred thousand of more space inside where the large spider gear are placed.

So in some of the gears when you take off you hear a clicking sound or when you turn.

Not all of them will have this, but some do and the ones that do should get me your info.

We have the shims that it takes to correct this and just need you to fax or mail me your address with the notation of SC10 Shims on it and I will send you out the shims to correct the spacing problem.

The RTR's will have the shims included in the box and if needed they can be installed.

If you need the shims, be sure to get me your address and I will have them sent to you.

OK....here is the latest update that I wanted to let you all know.

Just a heads up….the shims in the SC10 gear diffs and rebuild kits as well as the RTR's and SC10 Kits that are being done now have been updated with the new .2mm thick shims! The original shims that were in the kits and RTR's were .1mm thick and the new shims are .2mm thick.

It is still possible that there will be some of the originals still out there, so if you get a diff kit, or rebuild or SC10 Kit be sure to measure the #9828 shims and if they are .2mm then you are good to go..however if they are the .1mm thick shims contact us to get the extra shims needed.

Do not add another shim if your diff, rebuild or kit has the .2mm shims it could cause some unneeded binding of the gears.

Thanks!

that sounds like my issue right there. i didnt see any shims in the box so i will have to check. i got it as an RTR. actualy one guy tonight said thats wat he thought it was. but i have the only sc10 at my track that does this. i will have to check over the week will update later

Ok, hopefully that will fix it for you. Good luck!

BTW You should be able to pick up those shims at your local hobby store no problems.

Agreed, sounds like your diff isn't shimmer correctly. If you don't fix it it will start clicking, then bye bye sun gear!

+1 :thumbup1:

never a good idea to live with a "grinding noise" and expecting it to go away on it's own - they never do ;)

My advice is to scrap the gear diff and put the trans out of the T4 in it. Easy adjustment and I've had no issues running mine for more race weekends than I can remember.
