Hey guru's, I have acquired a Sony head unit and a CD changer for the pit trailer. I'm going to pick up a 12V power supply, any suggestions on how much. I'm not going to be running amps and subwoofers and crap, just some regular old speakers.

you should get one of those multi channel amps and run the speakers through em just to take out the tinny noise and drive teh sound past the trailer walls for when you are at a nearby pit table......the small ones are fairly cheap....should be able to find one for les than 100....and get a huge honker 12VDC power supply so you can run all your chargers and suck off one P/S....

what do you run your lights and tools off of? your trailer should be wired to 12v already if your running off the truck.

Trailer is wired with 115V AC. It's not hooked to my truck when I go to the races. Usually running off a generator or if I can hook up to available power trackside. I want to keep the power supply seperate from the stereo and the chargers just to keep the power for the chargers clean.

If you are running the speakers off the headunit, check the back of the headunit for the fuse rating. It's probably somewhere between 5-15 amps. That would give you an idea of how big a power supply you will need to get for it.

yeah unless its double din with lcd screen and dvd it shouldnt be more than 15 amp max. If you go bigger...say 30-40 amp you can connect a very decent 100 watt amplifier and really knock it out. All you would need is to make 2 small sub boxes with a good pair of 6x9 3 ways. Put them up in the top corners of the trailer and your good to go!!! I suggest 1/2" MDF if your making the boxes yourself.

I know on my boat, I have a seperate battery just for the stereo (no subs or amps, just 2-6" and 2-6X9's speakers, and I have a Optima Yellow cap bettery and I havent had to charge that battery in 3 years. I take it out in the winter and set it on a shelf. Its been a VERY awesome battery. (I've also ran the trolling motor off the battery off it too.)

I recommend this set up with a small trickle charger. I used a similar set up for my ham radio gear. It works great. You might also try a solar charger on top of the trailer and then use it to run an inverter off of the battery.
