What are the good automotive schools? I wanna go into one that teaches you to be a service technician, and also engine and chassis performance.

Does anyone know how good UTI or Wyotech is? I heard UTI is worthless, but i dunno.

Wyotech is the best in the nation and one of the best in the world. Charlie Foose and Boyd Coddington both went there. For serious mechanics, this is the place to go.

Kwong, my g/f is the assist manager at an auto repair shop and they have a couple of people there that have been thru Wyotech and they are very happy with then. They seem to do some good training there. Hope this helps you out.

Hmmm, well i've heard mixed opinions of both schools. It does seem like you gotta be really focused to goto either one.

I'm going for Wyotech when I get a little older, The automotive career is my focus also, Kwong.

LOL if your not focused on the task at hand how are you going to learn

Wyotech puts out the best of the best I do belive that they have 100 o/o placement. after you graduate so to say that you don't have to be focused is wrong kwong<<<<< lol

Well, i'm focused enough, but my point was that it really seemed like opinions for each school is really mixed.

Both are very good schools they both have great programs and have very good placment staticstics.

I'm focousing on going to UTI when i get out of voke I'm not sure on wyo but i know that UTI teaches you directly to dealer specs of which ever you choose to be trained in. EX. BMW/AUDI/JAG/Porche because they teach exactly what the dealers want you to be trained in doing.

UTI also has a nascar course diesle mechanics, hotrod courses...

Oops..My bad.. Ya get the point though..lol..

I know ALOT of Nascar mechanics come out of WyoTech. Id imagine its pretty spendy.. ANyone got any numbers for a years tuition?? Me and Kwong could be roomies!!! LOL

yea UTI is about 20-25 with dorm expenses and such.

but i could do it for like 16 because theyre opening a brand new one next year about 45 mins from me so i could live home while going to college and save a few grand

ok here the deal... i go to uti... it is a hguge waste of money and i can get hundreds of people to agree with me... please pm me for more info.

and thats simply your opinion just like some people may love peanut butter but i wont touch it i think its nasty as all hell.

that aint tooo bad then I guess compared to other state schools... Man they rip off students these days... Id say just go to a tech school.. Most of what people want is experiance anyway.. (Imo)

Form some of the body shops I worked at, theyd rather have someone with 4 years exp. in the shop than 4 years of being in school... Depends on where and what ya wanna do though I guess

Why's it a waste of money?

See, this's the stuff that turns me off.

actually had two friends that went to wyoming tech. One of them stayed on a few extra months for a hot rod/body class the other did some xtra classes too.

They enjoyed the atmosphere, they definetaly got the education they wanted and expected. One is still a mechanic, and a fairly good one.

The other friend workled for les schwab for a year, and just didn't like the industry hes doing other things now.. anywas I know it is a good school and from their stories it sounded like a fun school to go to as well..

Goodluck on your choice, just keep doing what you are doing.. research :D

uti is a good school if you have absolutely no knowledge of cars at all going into it... if you go into with even a basic knowledge of how stuff works then 70% of it is going to be mind numbingly boring... The atmosphere sucks becuase anyone who has been there as long as i have feels the same way. i would say 40% of the instructors are ready and willing to help you if you dont understand. the other 60% are washed up mechanics who couldnt make it in the real world... when your recruiter guy comes to your house and gives you his sales pitch it is a bunch of B.S. all they are is salesmen. they dont care about you or your education. they just want the commision that comes with you signing up... i have heard horror stories of the recruiters telling students anything that they want to here to get them to sign up. the facility itself is decent now that we got out new campus in avondale, az. but the training aids are all old and outdated... as for wyotech i have personally not seen there facilitys but i know a couple guys that have went there. the most succesful one went there when he was 18 and is now 26 and is workign as a manager at a jiffy lube... the only good thign about uti is the manufacturer programs. and even they have there disadvantages... if you absolutely dont care where you end up after school then they are good... the stipulation is that they will pay for your manufacturer training in exchange for you signing a CONTRACT to work for them when and where they like for a year or two. could be close to whre you would like to live... could be the other side of teh country..I know i feel as if i have only learneed a small amount of stuff that i didnt already know in the year and a half I've been going. thus i feel royaly ripped off... this is why I'm so adament about warning people about it. its ALOT of hype. and i mean alot. you wont learn any more at uti then you would at a local community college in there auto program. i guess you get the piece of paper at the end that says you went to one of the biggest auto tech schools in the nation. but at what cost??... i dunno i just would not recomend it... your experience may be different then mine but i doubt it...
