Hey guys. I'm really trying to get as close as I can to an authentic oldschool monster truck look. I've been tempted to get a Clodbuster for a while now but I know it will be tons of money and they don't really perform all that well. I want the large tires and higher suspension but I don't really want to deal with the dual motors of the Clod and all that. I want to try it with my 4x4 Stampede. I know there is a MT conversion kit by Jconcepts but it's $100 and I don't really think I need it because I got the proline body posts that elevate the body even higher. I just gotta figure out how to put on larger tires. I could get the castor blocks that come with the kit by themselves for $35, but what else would I need? I know the big tires put a strain on the truck overall, but I've seen it done and wanted to try it myself.

This is an Arrma Forum and I'm sure anyone would love to help you out with the Granite...IDK ish about Traxxas or I would help... Everyone on here is open to helping a fellow RC'er out regardless... good luck man..

Thanks. I would ask about this in the Traxxas forum but last and only time I posted there I got maybe a couple of replies and it took days to help sort out my problem. This forum is more alive and friendly though and posting this in the 'other RC's' thread I might get the info I'm looking for hopefully.

You can get 17mm hubs for the Stampede and to combat the strain go 8th scale ESC and motor. Here is a pic of my old Stampede.

That's a good idea I didn't think about. I have a Savox SW-0230 MG servo unopened, will that work? As for the motor, what do you recommend? I don't know about 8th scale.

For the motor, I have also run the Arrma Outcast factory equipment in the Stampede. Just make sure you have steel axles. And easy on the punch power.

So a couple of questions Mother_Trucker:
What are your over all goals for the "Authentic" MT? Is it just for looks and bashing? Scale realism? Competition?
If you are just going for looks then what has been said will work... The rest of the ones the Stampeed won't work. All monster trucks have solid axles (I have been looking for ISS Monster Trucks and have yet to find one). That being said Axial makes a MT Grave Digger that people build up for racing, scale compations, and even all around bashing.

i wanted a true looking monster jam monster truck like you but couldn't find none like i wanted... so i built it !

^ That's a nice truck.

I basically want it to look more like a MT with big tires and be a bit of a light basher, I'm not going to compete or race with it. Yeah I know they are solid axles but I'm willing to overlook that if I can put on the MT tires like a clodbuster has for example. I also don't want them to sit out to wide. Like I said I'd go with the Clodbuster route as I've wanted one for a while but they seem to be costly and not very versatile plus I'd have to assemble it myself which I know will be a pain. I've also seen people mod the wheelie king, as well as the Axial you mentioned. Here's a pic of a Stampede converted like what I'm saying.

I didn't mean to come off as a hot head... I was asking because I'm going to build me a True MT, but scale is very iportant to me. So solid axles is a must, performance is a must as well. And if I can get rc races to come back in my area (a few guys and myself are putting the pressure on for a sanctioned race next year) then it will also have to mete the rule book requirements as well.

That MT you linked to is prety neat looking.

Yeah I get what you're saying. It's not a true MT if it's not solid axle, I've seen guys mod their Clods for example to be great competition trucks, but it takes a lot of $$$. The truck in that link I posted is actually a Stampede 4wd with the conversion kit. I wouldn't mind having my Stampede like that and just run it with the big tires and then when it's hotter outside switch to smaller tires to keep temps down. I was hoping someone would know a little more about how to do that to a Stampede or if I should just fork over the $100 for the kit and then another $100 or so for the tires because for that added price I could just buy a Clod kit and start building it little by little.

Here's a good article I found on the pros and cons of authentic solid axle MT's and it basically reiterates all the maintenance they require and how they handle not unlike an independent suspension RC truck does. It's a good read.

I think I'm leaning more towards getting a Clod. I've wanted one for so long. They look awesome. I look forward to putting it all together myself and keeping it stock for a while, then once I get familiar with it I might upgrade it with a nice metal chassis to start then maybe go brushless. Nothing set yet but that is how I'm leaning right now.
