I'm looking to convert my Hyper 7 to a truggy... So far I would be getting hte 23mm hexes and then some complementary wheels/tires.

What should I do for gearing? What about body mounts for a mt body?

Thanks

Well, I dont think you can even find new conversions anymore. You dont neeed 23mm hubs, you can pick up some ofna or mugen 17mm hub extenders or use Ofna big offset rims, then you would not need the extentions. Holeshot and renegaderc used to make regear kits, but ebay would be best to search for them.
You can look here
http://perfplusparts.netfirms.com/conkit.html
and adapt it to the H7.
Most people had the conversion large towers and attached body posts to them, but woth stock towers you can pick up some Monster Pirate body mounts, or some Tmaxx(use RPM) ones and mount them to your stock towers.

WAIT, lookie what I found.......

They use 14mm hubs, and those can strip out with higher powers mills, I would go with 17mm.

Cool, I think I will go with 17mm offset wheels then.

How do I know what tires will fit? I was looking at Ofna wheels 17mm with a 28m offset.

Thats too expensive? Wish thats all I paid when I redid my Ofna into a truggy. LOL, dont just throw on MT rims/tires and run it that way. You will chew up your clutch in NO time. That and it will be a slug off the line.

+1 the gearing is way different because of the tire/wheel size. Do yourself a favor and figure out how much your lookin to spend on converting what you have into a truggy and then look at what you have as far as cash, and how much you can add selling your buggy and then looking into a purpose built truggy, either RTR or used.

offset wheels, drop a few teeth on the clutch bell and pick up a spur with more teeth, makes for a good backyard bashing truggy.

if the jammin spur fits (i'd think it would), you go from 46 teeth to 62. Thats a big jump in gearing.

I don't think there's room on the chassis for the 62t spur, you'd probably have to notch the hole bigger and then it would probably hang out too far below the chassis.

LOL, thats what the KIT is for. You have to raise the center diff, make a new plate for the top, raise the servo...............

Hahaha. Well I just figured it would be nice to have a little more control in the air, and maybe some more ground clearance. I was planning on adding the mt/offsets and then drop the cb.

I'll watch the kits and see how much they go for.

Even dropping to a 13t cb, that wont be enough unless you use Komoto LP tires. You will still kill your clutch in no time, trust me I have been through all of this. It will do this if your racing OR just light bashing.

K, thanks PSU. I believe you.

I got another question: How is it that monster trucks can afford huge tires and amounts of weight?

Well, gearing, even 2 speeds. They usually have bigger mills. They wont snap off the line like a 1/8.There is no comparision to 1/8 buggys. Unless its a race truggy, they wont handle like a buggy. MT's have weight up high.

if your looking to spend as little as possible get your self some ofna wheels of your choice and clue on some komodo dragons. thats what those tires were made for buggy conversions. then you don't need to fool with gearing and you can swap from truck to buggy in a few minutes the best of both worlds

if you are still thinking of doing it the cheaper way, 12t clutch bell and 48t spur significantly changes the gearing.

thats goin from 3.53:1 to 4.0:1 You'll just have to experiment with the clutch setup.

If you had the conversion, and ran with stock clutchbell, it would be 4.76:1. You have a beast for an engine pushing it anyways.

Sorry, but depending on what tires he choses, the 12t still wont cut it. Not with the stock spur. Even using aluminum shoes they will wear too quickly.

You can use the Komoto LP's but the outside diameter is about the same as a buggy tire( like a Crimefighter) and it is a little wider. So you wont get the MT "look" and ground clearence your looking for.

he'd have to use the optional 48 tooth spur gear to get to a more desirable gearing for the job.

just doing the clutch bell only brings you to 3.83:1

I have done the conversion with the komodo mt's on my buggy and using the stock gearing works great. as far as the ground clearance issue there is not even a 1/4 of an inch difference between my race revo and my truggy. so that really isn't an issue. as far as the look goes I get more comments on my truggy than anyone at the tracks its got that slammed look. the top cooling fin on the engine is flush with the roof line of the body. we still don't really know what your intentions are with this truggy is it for racing or bashing? either way you go the komodo setup will work great for ya and its the cheapest way i know how to make it work and the most simple.
