Associated LRP Z.28R or CEN RACING NX-76 7.6CC in MBX ultra

The LRP Z.28R has 3.81HP but the CEN NX-76 has 5, The LRP Z.28R is $165 however the CEN NX-76 is $209, the Z.28R is .28 cu/in but the can the CEN is .46 cu/in, the Z.28R is more of a gas saver the CEN is not.

Which one should you think i should look at. This is going to be a weekend Basher so i would like the more reliable of the two. Is the Z.28 even able to reach 3.81 HP with a low nitro % fuel?

What engines would you suggest?

I'll tell you for sure that both of those engines will not reach the HP ratings that they put out.

First...What is yoru budget?
2nd....Do you have a starter box?
3rd.....How long have you been in the nitro hobby?

Answer these questions then we can give you a more educated answer. But I would not go with either of those engines.

Just a word of warning, the LRPZ.28 Spec2 engine has a massive rear crank area and it is difficult to find engine mountings high enough to facilitate that motor in a buggy.
I've tried it in a TTR EB4-S3 and an Ofna Blazer. Still no luck with finding over the counter engine mounts high enough!

Mondo have you tried the older OFNA mounts yet???? the universal style ones....they made the older ones higher because the Flywheels used to be larger.....

I am just getting into the Hobby however sooner or later i am going to want to do some upgrades, I dont have a starter box and, I would probably spend $225 on an angine no more. What is the most powerful engine for under 225?

Does the CEN RACING NX-76 still have a high HP output or it just not worth the money. I am not planning on upgrading the engine soon because i would like to upgrade the servo then the tranny to a two speed. There are two versions of the two speed tranny, Which one is better, The Clutch Shoe Type(35011) or the Cam & Lever Type (35001)?

Honestly, Its not just the engine but the set up of your ride. Diff oil, gearing can be a big contributor to your performance or lack thereof.Sounds like the engines you mention won't be too impressive as opposed to a P5

The cen racing engine is not worth the money your going to spend on it. I would recommend something like these...

XTM 24.7 or 24.7 pro
SH .28
Mach .26 or .28
Collari .30

All good engines for under $200. I've used both xtm engines and the sh engine (sh, xtm, mach, and a few others are made by the same company) and they are all easy to tune and run really well. The mach runs well and is easy to tune as the others.

I don't have any personal experience with the collari .30, but I've read alot about it. People seem to like them but they can be finiky to tune at times.

All of these engines come with a pullstart or a roto start, and if they don't have a roto start one can be put on.

I'll add to vbs list the picco 27. It is the most reliable powerful engine I have ever used and will run you about $150. You can get a rotostart backplate for $12. IMO the bottom end on this engine is fatter than the Collari 30. It is easy to tune and holds a tune better than the collari. I have used it in both my savage and hyper pcr and it has served me well in both cars.

I think that the CEN mill is probably good for just low grunt or even tractor pulling. I agree with VB' choices. Try and stick to a less expensive yet effective mill that you can learn from then move to a higher end mill.

I would suggest the Sportwerks .26, or the OS RG. The Sportwerks .26 (130.00) is proabably the best engine I have seen aside from the $250.00+ race .21 mills. It is also a member of that sh, mach, etc family of engines.

The OS RG ($110.00) is another good choice for bashing, just because of its reliability and the fact it holds a tune well. Not quite the power of the Sportwerks from mid to top, but tons of low end.

Both of these engines are great performers and are priced cheap enough such that you can get a tuned pipe to match your engine and still be at or below the $200.00 mark.

i would have to agree with SD about the Picco .27. I prefer that over my Collari .30.
Also i believe the cen engine's case is a lot bigger and will not fit most .21 size applications.

Alright, i now have a list going. These arent in any kind of order.

1. 24.7 6 Port Pro
2. SH 28 Pro Rear Exhaust
3. STS D28M .28
4. Mach .28 with PS SG
5. Sportwerks .26 w/PS SG
6. Pico .27

I'm thinking the SH looks like the most bang for the buck so far. I just want somthing better then the Force .26 in the future. I heard that it can be somwhat of a lag at times and it also had tuning problems.

The only mill out of them that i have used is the picco .27. That is the mill i'm running in my xterm buggy and its sick! Out of the engines you picked out you should go with the .27. It is also very easy to tune.

The ofna hyper 8-port is another good engine IMO......had 3 and they all ran great..........plenty of power and easily tuned........
