Sledge is awesome. Not worth the full MSRP awesome, but you’ll have a blast for $400. Chassis is weak around the motor mount, an upgraded center diff mount/motor mount is probably the only upgrade it really needs and solves the problem when the chassis inevitably bends there. Some people break the hinge pins on the rear, but I haven’t managed to bend one yet. I did strip a rear diff on 6s, but I also beat the snot out of it… so I don’t know if I’d consider it a weak point or if it’s from landing on throttle accidentally.

I’ve lawn darted it at the skate park, driven into tress at full throttle, etc. I have never driven an RC with as little care as I have the sledge. It is probably one of the most durable RC’s I’ve ever owned and Traxxas nailed the plastic compound. The aluminum could be stronger, but soft aluminum isn’t just a Sledge issue. The Kraton has a similar problem with chassis bending with a lot of abuse.

I definitely agree about the Traxxas plastics, probably the best in the biz. My brother has problems with diffs and driveshafts/cvd's. He also bent the chassis, but I can't fault Traxxas for that, he has smacked soo many tree's with that poor thing, LOL. It is a tough truck indeed. The driveshafts though, weird, front cvd's split at the yoke where the barrel goes through, and all the driveshafts seem to loose the drive pins. I've had similar experiences with Redcat cvd's, and my brothers O8s lost a pin out of a rear cvd on day one brand new..

If it were me on the XRT VS K8S, I'd go Traxxas. They're just so much lighter. Parts are cheaper, and if you don't make it weigh a ton with aluminum upgrades and giant power systems they'll most likely not break in the first place.

Exactly, and why I say it depends on what one wants to do with it. In stock form the Traxxas 8s are really fun and durable. The latest Arrma's are faster with the 5687 motors they now have but also require a lot more battery to get anywhere near equal run times. Then there's tire wear, Arrma's destroy pretty much all tires much quicker than the TRX rigs do. The weight really shows there. Pick your poison. Or, get one each!!

Ditto! Not only can I not afford the motor, I can’t afford the ensuing carnage either! LOL. I can understand the temptation for sure however.
