That's pretty close to what happened to my niece. She took her 88 Honda Accord LX (Christine, as I call it) to a local mechanic to get it repaired. The car runs better. However, she paid to have a new radiator and overflow installed. The parts were not only not installed, but they were taken back by an employee and the money pocketed.

Or so that's the story. The shop put a copper fitting in, instead of replacing the parts as paid to do.

The same with several seals and gaskets, and all four engine mounts and the trans mount.

$400 worth of parts and labor that was not done.

And it gets even better - the guy puts my sister "on hold", but messed up. She overheard the mechanic basically complaining that my sister was a 'pain to deal with'.

Mechanics are just like General Contractors; ya gotta watch 'em like a hawk.

Ouch... I dont understand why people would pull someinthg off like that. I wonder if it is was the managers telling them not to change that stuff. I know everytime I go to get my oil changed they tell me my air filter looks dirty and I should replace it... One time I replaced it and then got a oil change the next dayt and they told me that it need to be replace. lol But this is really low.

That is exactly why I service my own vehicle. I have also heard of Jiffy Lube either not putting fluid back in after an oil change, or leaving the plug or filter loose. No way in hell would I ever bring one of my cars to them!

5 out of 9!!?!? wow, that is just a disgrace... Especially how the owner (or whatever he was) faked his identity and lied on camera. Ill go to another place when its time...

My sister just got ripped off pretty bad. They charged her to replace a fuel PUMP, when all they replaced was a fuel FILTER.. My dad wasn't a happy camper and is still planning on a visit.

Fortunatly, they were caught, Unfortunatly, there are so many out there doing the same thing and not getting caught. Thats been a P.I.M.A. for awhile, cause I have 5 daughters that I know have been taken that way. I don't blame them when they ask me to go along with them when they get there car serviced. I watch em like a hawk.

Same here, I do it myself. When I do need a mechanic I'm lucky enough to have a friend that owns a shop and lets me use his tools and helps out on the things I can't handle.

5 out of 9 Jiffy Lubes in just one small area that's the truely scary part. I could only guess how many are doing it nation wide then. The sad part is nothing will happen to Jiffy Lube - they'll continue ripping people off left and right.

This right here makes me want to go to every Jiffy Lube in town and show all their customers this video all day.

Firestone didn't put radiator coolant in my moms car before, the car almost overheated and blew up. How much effort does it take to put the fluids in a friggin car?!

holy crap that is nutz.....I'm doing all of my work for now on...damn can you imagine the dealers

actually the dealers are a better bet that you'll get proper service.....it's the jiffy screw lube places that just thrive on that stuff.....I had to stop in one and get oil once after blowing the filter off the engine on the road....I told him I wanted the good oil...when I went around and saw them putting the hose oil in my car I freaked...then they tried to tell me it's the same oil....OK buddy that's why it says resalvage or reclaimed oil on the friggin pump.....the grease monkeys they have working make 8 bucks an hour and just want to get out of work......I stand right outside the garage doors whenever I have to bring my car in for something I can't do......never trust a lawyer or a mechanic you don't know......and even then I'd be leary....

I've had similar experience at the chain oil change for $20 places. They do a half ass job caue they know 80% of their customer dont know poop about anything car related. They play the percentages that they wont get caught. If they do they just apologize and do it right the second time. But they rarely get caught is the problem.

Lately I've been going to Firestone (yeah its another chain) but they seem to be a bit more upfront and honest. I've gone to 4 now and all of them not only were fast and courteous (the deskk poeple anyway) but they were very competativly priced and everything they said they were going to do they did.

The ONLY time I take my car to the shop is when its a bigger job than I can do on my own in a timely matter in the driveway. Luckely from my mechanic days I already know whats wrong before I take it to the shop but play dumb just to see what they say. They have been spot on everytime. So, there ARE good mechanis out there. Just have to be savvy, check around, take something small to one to see how they do before you trust them with a BIG job. Dont be afraid to tell them no thank you when they suggest something bigger (tell them you dont have the money right now or that you need your car back for now but will bring it in to them in a couple days) then take the car in to another shop to get a second opinion.
