I saw on some sites saying that some cars were running at 73.4 MPH

How true is this ?

Well, it could be true. CEN claims that as the top speed of one of their TC's and I believe Schumacher is claiming close to that with their BB TC. Never seen that with my own eyes. Well, except for the RC Nitro Super RS4 build that hit 101 mph....

If you are getting that speed off a manufacturers specs it is most likely under optimum conditions on a track or uber smooth flat surface with a very good tune and optimum chassis setup. But yeah I guess under the perfect conditions its possible.

One of the cheaper on roads out there (the 4tec) claims 60+ Mph and having seen one in person go very very very fast in a straight line, it didnt turn, stop, start, or do anything else very good at all. But fast, yes, it was VERY fast.

yes, it was the cen I was seeing. But these guys talking up here about the car is the fastest in the country.

cen ct4 series and the schumaker menace 21 are the only 2 that supposedly hit 70mph. i dont know about the cen onroad but one of my friends own a menace 21 and its fast!!!!!!!!! we have not tried to check the actual speed of it but ist the fastest nitro(top speed) I've ever seen in person

Well the more reputable comanies will give you a number that is at least very close in optimal conditions(track, wind, high nitro % fuel and near perfect tuning).

Others like the lesser known cheap O mart brands slap MPH and they could maybe manage these numbers in KPH on a great day with the wind pushing things and rolling down on a slope! :ahh:

I've seen the cen video of thier car doing i think was 76.3mph. then theres the famous super nitro rs4 a guy built going 101 mph. i remember seeing a video with a guy with shumacher .21 fusion doing around 80 mph. the guy at my hoby shop his car does 80 easy. from what I've heard him and another person whose seen it. but most cars that can get that fast end up taking flight and ending in a nasty crash.

I personally think most of the speed claims by manufactorsn are B.s. My 1st nitro was a Traxxas 4 tec that claimed 60mph right from the box. Granted it was fast (Handled like a brick with wheels) but 60mph?? Nah... maybe if it was brand new tar and about a miles worth of it 100% pebble and dirt free. Something from Cen I would HIGHLY doubt, also Smartech claims crazy high speeds as well that are completely bogus. Most of the time when manufactors brag the speeds, the rig sucks.

I had the Schumacher Fusion21. It came very close to the claims of 70+ mph but by the time it was getting there (with stock gearing) the car was either too far away or getting real close, REAL FAST while I was standing on a curb. This car (fusion21) is a beast of a speed demon as long as it was going straight. Used it on the track for a season during club races but sold it soon afterwards. Got tired of having to sling the car around turns in a power drift just to get it perform with some speed in the hairpins and chicaynes.

I guess my question would be why. Why would you want or need an 8th or 10th scale car to attain full scale speeds? Think about it, you've got a model car going the same speeds as a 1:1 car without the benefit of the technology in a 1:1. I've seen some full size cars get fairly messed up in a wreck at 70 MPH, I have to imagine cracking a R/C rig up at 70 MPH would effectively disintegrate it.

I think these manufacturers put speeds on their marketing for two reasons:

1. They know there are people out there who will buy based on speed and speed alone, no matter if that rig really can reach those speeds consistently.
2. They know that these very same people will probably never be in a situation where they will want or need to reach those speeds, even if the rig could consistently reach them.

I'm not impressed with a rig's top speed, more overall performance. My neighbor up the street, who's a real ass, has a Jato he keeps chirping about being so fast and what not. Problem is, the bonehead is always slamming it into curbs and tearing it up! He keeps wanting me to bring my MT out to race him, and I keep telling him if he can keep the Jato running for more than 5 minutes I will!

They had a dragster do 98mph :)

I'm pretty much with MW on this unless someone is using the car to drag race with.

Monkey hit it on the head. Its all marketing.

Look at the average 1st time buyer. They go into the store and start looking at the thrill of what is on the box to help them make the decision of what to get. If they see one that says the best handling car on the market and has consistent lap speeds of XXX or YOU CAN GO 80+ MPH what do you think they are going to choose. Again most people in this hobby have no clue what they want besides a thrill.

There was an article in RCCA a few months back comparing the CEN and the Schumacher. Both cars hit 70+ mph in stock form. The article said both cars were about to catch air and loose control the entire time, and the CEN did, and MW your right, it basically disintegrated. They said theres not reason to go that fast, but they were succesful in hitting 70. The CEN was actually faster, but took a lot more time to reach that speed than the Schumacher did.

I personally think once you get a TC to above 45 or so thats damn fast lol. Unless all your doing is going straight you can't go too much faster and still have good control of the car. They are just too little and light to be stable at those speeds. The CEN in the article nearly took flight I bet lol.

I saw alot of cars and trucks in the hobby store that said in BIG BOLD LETTERS 60 + and then in really light, faint letters it said KPH. I just can't believe that someone is that greedy for business. If I made a R/C car and marketed it, I would put the durablity on the box rather than the speed.

About the CEN, I bet one of the owners stuck some model rocket engines on there and some wings and went for the stars!

"Again most people in this hobby have no clue what they want besides a thrill."

Very true, most customers who purchase the RC cars, trucks and buggies have no clue. Some want to go fast and yet they have no place to run them, others want to run run and run and do not even maintain them! Then they get mad because thier dirty air filter let particles pass that damage the engine! :loser:

At least these clowns buy RC and pump money in the industry.

I'm not big on speed. if anything it scares the sh!t out of me. when i see my mt at wide open trottle the steering gets light and one turns send it in the air. I'm nor of a torque person my self though. truely theres no need for a 70 mph car. at those speeds you can bearly see it. what monkey said was the exact reason why companies put those numbers on the box.

I've seen on cen's website some of the vehicles have some .43 size engines, does it make sense to put big power with no stablility ?

guess not, but that's just bogus what they are doing.
