I just installed one of these into my Savage SS and am extremely impressed with it. I broke it in according to the instructions which suggest the Paris heat cycling method. It was boring but I think it paid off big time! It starts within the first 4 inches of pullstart being pulled out! idles perfectly and runs at 200-220 consistently. And the power is amazing. It first stripped out my rear wheels hubs which I JB welded back into place. Then after a few more tanks at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle it stripped out the spur gear so that is going to be replaced next. It will flip the Savage over in a split second, it is so fast and powerful, I also run a 1/8th buggy with an OS VZB and I am not sure I will need that anymore for the speed fix!

ANyway, I would like to know what parts typically need beefing up from the stock rtr? I would prefer to just get everything into it now rather than keep breaking things and rebuilding it.

If anyone here is looking to upgrade I SERIOUSLY suggest you look into this engine. It is so far the best nitro engine I've ever dealt with.

yes it is a crazy engine. i got it in my supermaxx, and man i can't control it. just wait until u get the beast to a track man it is insane. do u run the stock head on it? i got the crazy nut head for mine and man it is gigantic. u can see it in my gallery. but anywayz i would advise u to upgrade any and all of the drive train pieces first.

Which parts specifically?

Mine came with the O'Donnell style head and it was almost 90 degrees out and it ran nice and cool. I was really amazed.

the drive line pieces, i really dont know what they are called just because i dont have a savage. but i know for a fact that u are going to have to upgrade ur drive train pices. like ur tranny might need to be upgraded.
i havent heard of the o'donnel head? can u take some pics of it?

bryan

If youer talking savage i got a .26 in mine and only broke the stock dogbones all of them. The tranny will take the pain.

i think that they are a direct fit, but like i said i am not too much of a savage guy so i dont know how tough the drive train pieces are.

Mine fit right in. I tried to put an OFNA 3 shoe clutch in with it but it didn't line up right so I had to use the stock 2 shoe clutch. It seemed to work fine but I am sure it will burn out soon.

The head on mine is like the O'Donnell which is 60mm wide with slots cut into the top. It seems to really work well. Especially considering the real O'Donnell version costs almost $100 and this engine can be bought on ebay for about $160 or so.

That's good to hear! I currently have the XTM 24.7 and am thinking about upgrading to the Pro version. Hmmm...tempting.

i might have to get one of these i need a new engine mines losing compression pretty bad:hehe:

And also how does the xtm compare to the picco 26 or wasp 26?

well, i dont have the picco .26 or the wasp .26 but man i think that the XTM 24.7 will give them a run for their money!!!

I broke in the XTM in my buggy and by comparison to a Picco 0-1 I used to have, the XTM would eat it up and stay at 220 degrees doing it.

I forgot to mention that I had a mishap when I first started running it, the air filter came off while I was running it in some loose dirt and all of a sudden the engine died. I went to move the flywheel to put the piston at bottom dead center and it was really gritty, to the point of not being able to move it. I quickly removed the body and the filter fell right off. It was full of a muddy/oily substance.

Anyway, I immediately went home to take it apart and completely disassembled it, cleaned everything, particularly the carb and bearings. I didn't notice any scratches or anything unusual. After I put it back together, it started right up as if nothing ever happened. I am really blown away with this engine!

I would be very surprised if the wasp or picco were any better than this thing.

How much is the XTM 24.7? I'm getting tired of my hyper 8 and it might be going south. I abused it during break in...long story

Is that the pro version?

Man, I wish I had money for a new engine...once again, $800 coilovers for 1:1, or money to spend elsewhere...hmmm, I need a job

Yes that's the pro version-it has the really large cooling head and a black crankcase.

yeah cuz I've been looking for something to put my savage that could be a picco or wasp hopefully it does the trick

I just had the 24.7 installed (not the pro version) today. I'm still in the break in process, but I can already see that this motor will be like night and day over the stock .21 BB. I took it to my LHS and the manager their hooked me up with a great price for the motor. He runs the same motor in his Savage and T-Maxx. He installed it himself and started the break in process for me. I took it home earlier tonight and ran 2 more tanks thru it. He told me to run about 6 tanks thru it, and then I should start tuning it. It only has a HSN and a LSN, so you don't have to worry about the midrange at all. I can't wait for it to be broken in, then I can start having some real fun.=devil. Maybe one day I will upgrade to the 24.7 Pro, but for right now, this motor is bad ass. If anything goes wrong w/the motor, he said to just bring it back and he'll exchange it for a brand new one.
