Anyone tried a .247 conversion w/ 72T ring and 23T clutchbell?

RC Driving Style
I recently bought a T-Maxx w/ an XTM .247 conversion. We finally got it running yesterday - the thing is a straight-up monster on grippy surfaces - the front wheels will not stay on the ground during acceleration or at speed, which leads to unwanted acrobatics at launch. Heh.

10 minutes after we fired it up it ate the stock spur gear. Oh well.

As a replacement I've decided to go with the RRC 8472 double disc slipper & steel spur kit. The truck already has RRC steel diff gears, a RRC steel primary forward gear and a FOC, so no other drivetrain upgrades should be necessary.

I'm considering swapping the stock 20T clutch bell for a 21T or 23T one. I've read the gearing FAQ - I know this will raise my gear ratio. I know there will be a speed difference at the top end, but I'm wondering how much of a difference I'll see at the low end

FYI we run primarily on firm surfaces - grass, asphalt, concrete and packed dirt.

I'd like to be able to keep up with (read: outrun) the other xMaxxen in our club, and figure it'll be easier to do so if all four wheels stay on the ground... :)

Any experiences?

yup i had the same prob. i run the rrp steel 72t spur gear with a traxxas 23t clutch. works great, the front stays donw for the most part. it does pop up every once in a while when u hit the trottle hard.

That's good to hear.

I've ended up going with the RRC 8465 65T slipper kit and a 21T clutchbell for a slightly higher ratio. If it turns out to be too much of a slug off the line I can always swap back to the stock 20T clutchbell.

I should still be able to outrun the other trucks here. That's whats important. :D

You should have enought grunt for the 22cb/65spur with a decent amount of acceleration. I am unfamiliar with 247 but from what I have heard it delivers a lot of torque. It will also take some stress off of the transmission.
