Anyone shoe horn an 1/8 scale clutch into their revo yet?

Just curious... I read on another place that a guy had done it. You need to grind the chassis, shorten the front drive shaft and re-drill then move the trans forward a bit.

My clutch just fried on me and I remember fighting with the t-maxx clutch time and time again... short of dropping $70 on a werks, I don't see many alternatives. So, I have begun on trying it. I had a spare savage flywheel, shoes/bell laying around, so I bolted it up to the engine just to see how far things need to move.

About 1/8-1/4 inch too long... I guess I'll start drilling/grinding...
 
what are the advantages of putting that clutch on? anyway, doesn't look to hard as long as you measure twice, cut once.
 
I just remember having to constantly replace clutch springs and shoes when I had a t-maxx. Also, there's quite a bit of clutch slip with the 18TM. This would help that problem as well.
 
I read somewhere that turning the shoes backwards elimination slipping but I haven't tried it or seen it with my own eyes so ?????
 
Well... I got it to fit. I had to elongate the 4 trans bolt holes in the chassis about 1/4 inch or so. I also drilled a couple new holes in the trans case flange/chassis to run bolts through the keep the trans from sliding around. It felt pretty solid before adding the new holes, but I just didn't want to risk it moving.

Here's the spur/bell. I had to grind a little off the throttle servo case as well because the slipper rubbed on it:

Here's the bottom of the trans so you can see how much I had to move it and the new bolts that keep it from sliding around:

I didn't have to cut the front axle like I thought I would. I'll see if it's any better than the stock clutch some time this weekend. If nothing else, it should last longer.
 
I ran it today and it worked really well. Really let me see the power of the TM. Although, apparently the TM idles higher than my 21 RG as it engaged the clutch really early. To the point that I had it idling so low it would stall if I didn't tap the throttle every few seconds.

So, I lightened the shoes:

Anyone think I went to aggressive? It's a 3/32" hole through each shoe. Hopefully, I'll be able to try it out tomorrow.

Also, I noticed it's faster. Apparently the clutch was slipping before at high RPM. Which kind of makes sense, higher gear ratio, more HP at high than low RPM's. So I geared back down a little with a 38T/15T setup instead of 36/15.
