Anyone know if there is programming function for Traxxas to return the on and off function of the power button?

It seems that somewhere around 2020-2022 maybe not sure really when.
I know 2019 the power button still turned the RCs on and off without unhooking the battery.
Seems now that only way to shut one of the newer Traxxas RCs off is to disconnect the battery.
On a UDR that is pain in the rear to flip the RC over and pull the cover and unplug it to power it off.

My older UDRs the power button was easily accessible to turn it on and off as needed in matter of 1-2 seconds based on its location on the UDR.

I am imagining this is some sort of safety feature of sorts, not sure what the reasoning is, I just know I really don't like it. LOL

I was wondering if there is any sort of programming that can be done to fix them to where the power button works as it was originally intended.

I don't think so. Traxxas ESCs are very very basic programming and very limited options. If you have the TQi and BT module, maybe there's some setting in the app you can do to turn it off but I highly doubt it. They put that feature in the esc so you HAVE to take out the battery in order to turn it off so people don't kill their lipo's when the car is sitting on/idle for long periods of time.

It’s odd the ESCs in my old 2016, 17, 18, and 19 model UDRs all look identical to my 2025 models, yet only my 2025 models make me unplug them to turn them off or cycle the power.

I sort of understand yet, I like to park mine and switch vehicles and come back to it at will. I prefer to just reach down push the power button and shut it it down when I swap RCs.

It’s actually just been making me leave it on when I park it and switch RCs during what we typically do is a 2-3 hour track sessions.
I may swap back and forth between my RCs several times.

I just find this to be an incredibly irritating new feature.

Anyone know the part number for the Traxxas 6S ESC version that can be turned on and off with the power button.
The parts breakdown calls out a part number 3485.

Jenny’s shows this part number on one they have for sale.
3485T TRA3485T
I suspect it’s off a late model UDR meaning the power button likely only turns it on and no longer lets you turn it back off with another push of the power butt(n like the older Traxxas UDRs.

Is that T possibly some sort of indication letter of that change?

I thought since the older 3485 ESCs worked normally with power button functioning as common sense on and off function to it .

Yes, it’s irritating as heck to unplug the dang things. A simple button works great. I run my 6 and 8s stuff at parks and such. It’s rare that people don’t come asking questions about the RC’s. Sometimes, it takes a good 45 minutes to an hour to get a pack run out so many people inquire about them. Constantly having to take the body off and unplug it to talk gets old when it gets busy with onlookers.

Best I can tell it’s the same ESC they just made some sort of ridicules change to them for some reason so they only power on not off.
All my older pre-2020 stuff still works like normal push the power button it comes on then push it again it turns off like all my recently purchased Losi works as well I might add.

Only the newer and possibly only 6S and up ESC from Traxxas no longer power off with the power button.
I have some newer 3S stuff from Traxxas that the power button still works like normal as an on and off button. Not on only like 6S+ stuff.

Can’t or haven’t been able to find anyone that knows if it was a wire ring change or programmed change or how to change it back.
It’s incredibly annoying on my UDRs, when the power button is so easy to access and worked so well to reach down and power it on or off in a second, and now on my newer UDRs I have to flip them over pull the battery cover to access the plugs to then unplug it in order to shut it off.

I am a bit particular about not wanting to scratch them up more then necessary and flipping them over on the rocks to fiddle with that battery cover while grinding the roof into the rocks is super annoying to the point I just leave them on till I am done with them and ready to pull the batteries on the work bench where I flip them over onto a towel and remove the battery.

My older UDRs I turn them on and off at will with the easy access power button. Same as my Losi Baja Rey 2.0s .

Why Traxxas , Why????

Years ago I'd bring my cars in the ac for a 10 to 20 minute cool down. I used to use tge esc button until a few times the car turned on. This was tge first or second version vxl esc around 2009. Also had my crawler swell a lipo. From now on I unplug for peace of mind.
