I have been looking at getting into it and was wondering if someone had it hooked up and going.

No hack talk on the forum please, just some basic info on what you may be using and how you have it hooked up.

Hey Ed.... are you speaking in terms of Internet, Networking... or like Cellular or GPS type Sat Comm?

No,
Free-to-Air is a TV satellite setup that is free. There are thousands of free satellite channels out there. Hook up a dish and box, tune in the satellite and they are free.

There are many hacks for them to get paid satellite like dish channels. Many people use them for that but I'm not interested in talking about this because its against the law. I'm just interested in seeing if anyone is using the equipment legally.

There are many Chinese free channels FREE AND LEGAL that I would like to have here. I dont want to get the wrong equipment. Do a Google search on Free-To-Air and youll see whats up. There is a lot of info out there and thats the issue, Information overload....

Do you mean like the old,big 6-10ft dish satellite systems?

Before Dish Network/Directv came on I had a dish in the yard. There were a lot of channels but the worst part for me was that channel surfing was slow. Once set up, you had to tell the reciever what satellite number to lock on to, then you could check out the channels on it, then pick a different satellite, wait for the dish to move then surf those channels.
If I remember right, at that time there were about 20 satellites. I'm not sure how much technology may have improved since then though. There certainly was a lot free stuff out there.

I once knew some Asian guy that was using FTA. I think he still has all the equipment, both the dish and the receiver. My vague memory says he had a Viewsat Platinum RX. If you're interested I can pass on his number.

I know someone who did the Earnhardt Jr,didnt pay off in the long run.Now its really hard to get.It was nice while it lasted though.

Yes I have a free to air satellite system. Some of my co workers also have the same system and seem to really get alot of enjoyment out of it. If you have any questions about it, let me know, I really can't help you, but a couple of my friends know alot about it and I will pass your questions on to them!!
