Hey guys,, Been a while since I started a thread here. I have an old electric buggy here, and I have no idea what it is. Has anyone ever seen one of these before? It doesn't really matter, but I thought you guys might have fun taking a stab. I knida wanted to share the find anyways..thanks in advance if anyone has any ideas about its maker or history. By the way it's a copmplete high-tec setup rx servox etc. Pics coming right up \/

I can't really say, but that thing screems RadioShack to me. Which would mean Tyco, on Nikko. What does it say on the tire? Off Roader? Does it have any other writting at all? Maybe on the resister?

Actually, most of the old tyco, nikko and radio shack ones never ran a mechanical throttle control. They were always a cheap ESC that was integrated into the receiver/power transfer board. Instead of making things modular like "real" rc's, the made one circut board that had a ESC, reciever and power converter on one board. If not a power converter, then they had a place for 4 AA's to drop into it as well as a stick/flat pack.

that speed control screams tamiya to me.... didnt all tamiya's have that same speed control back in the day?

It's a Tamiya. Not the Grasshopper. The Grasshopper had a one piece rear end. The Frog had the independent suspension. Those I'm familiar with since I had a Grasshopper, and my neighbor had the Frog. That is also the same speed controller and location as the Tamiyas. Also the location of the ceramic resistor is the same.

Wow, I step away for a few hours and I have all kinds of answers. I was thinking tamiya too. Like you said.. just finding what model now eh? Where would I find any markings if there were to be any?
Thanks big time guys

You know something different. A lot of the older tamiya's had hard plastic lids. this one is made out of something like they do nowdays. It's a lot like a 1/8th scale buggy with the sides cut out, just the cockpit/hood is covered.

There's a link to old Tamiya cars from another thread. The photo of yours from the top is also the same 'tub' used for all the Tamiya cars. The only thing I don't recognize is the side extensions on the tub.
So, it's not the Grasshopper, and it's not the Frog. Look for other models with that feature and the independent rear.
By the way, it's from the early 80s.

Holy smokes! Seeing that MSC Unit reminds me of the Tamiya Stadium Blitzer I have in collecting dust in my closet (dont have the heart to throw it away! Damn all-bushing stadium truck!) God those were a pain in the butt to keep working! I constantly had to buy new ones, or rebuild them! Well, Good luck figuring it out!

Oh wow, that's soo close, thanks man for looking at all those.

Now for the great news.
I tossed in a crystal from the hi-tech agressor (cheese) and then shoved in a 12 year old battery. The damned thing works like it's new LMAO.

Now the only bad news is thtat the missing tire/wheel in the pictures is really missing lol. I'm going to have to get a tire from somewhere to get this thing whole again. Looks like a living room/garage basher to me heheh

my next door neb had that car when we were kids. It is a tamiya. Take the steering servo off and the name might be there. Most tamyia are like that. I will try to get in hold of him to fimd out.
