Have n e of you guys raced or at least driven with other trucks? How did the MGT compare to the others?

I've practiced with mine on a rc track for a couple weeks so far. I did manage to break the shock tower. It jumps very well. I have the picco .26 engine which helps the performace a bit. This weekend will be my first race with the mgt.

poncho, I am picking up a new MGT tomorrow. I have a spare Ofna .26 engine laying around. Will the MGT drivetrain handle that engine?? That thing has 2.7 hp and really rips. It eats T-Maxx drivetrains for breakfast.

You may have to add the HPI 2 speed Steel gears to the tranny.

Sorry I haven't replied to your post. The mgt handles a picco .26 like it was made for it. I've raced mine for almost a month with no problems. I'm not on my computer now but, when I get home I'll post some pictures of my setup today. I did have to ajust the two speed a little. Poncho

Let us know how you finished.
First race I finished 4th out of 8 trucks, which were made up mostly of savages and 2.5 tmaxx's. BTW the track is very tight and technical. I was pleased with the mgt's performance as most of the problems were driver errors. LOL Poncho

Your race in a class wity both big blocks and small blocks?

In the monster truck class you race what you bring. Sometimes theirs not enough big block mt trucks to have a seperate class. Poncho

poncho, thanks for info. I am going to race the MGT with the stock engine and see what happens. The track is very technical, so power don't matter much; driving skill is what counts. I am hesitant to put the .26 into the MGT as I don't want to start fraggin' all the drivetrain parts, but it's good to hear that you have been successful with it.

Check the "view my gallery" under my username, I have some pictures of my MGT Poncho

man, that looks good. That is exactly my engine. Did yours drop right in? I read somewhere that you need a new engine mount for a Picco .26, is that true? Does your engine have the SG crank (the long one)? I like the battery pack lying flat. I was thinking of doing something like that at some point. Are you using the Richard Saxton setup? I see the red springs (which I already ordered) and the 40 series Bow-Ties (which I already have).

Did you have to raise the ride height or use heavier shock oil? I know the red springs are stiffer, but are they enough to compensate for the lower profile tires? That is, are you slapping the chassis much when you land off a big jump?

Nice job

I'm running 40wt. oil front/rear with a 1/8th spacer in the rear, as for the picco 26. engine it dropped right in. I heard you need to change the motor mount also, but I found it fit just find. Yes it has the SG crank. I removed the receiver/battery box to save some weight and so I could move things around for balance and convenience. I moved the flat battery behind the engine. This helped in the rhyme sections of the track. The front tended to dip when going thru the rhyme section. Now the front is a bit lighter. Works for me. I remember reading before the MGT was released that the drive train would be built to handle a .50.

Hey Chevy, I noticed you are running 4 shocks on your tmaxx. I tried the same thing but I kept bending my hing pins. I couldn't seem to find a shock oil/spring rate that worked for big jumps and rhyme sections of out track. So I got out the dial calipers and did some measuring. The MGT plastic shock bodies are 30 thousandths or so larger. the shock shafts are the same size as my big bore shocks form Traxxas. So I put the Aluminum shock caps for a MGT on the plastic MGT bodies. I had them before I decided to use piggyback resv. Next I drilled the extra MGT pistons out to the same size as the ones in my big bore tmaxx shocks. You can use the small orings and spacer from your big bores in the MGT shocks. Screw the the shock eyes from the big bore on to the MGT shock shafts. I'll add pictures to my gallery. Later! Poncho
