I need a .21 engine with a pull start, I know the pro's of going bump but for a hard core back yard basher as myself, I hate carrying around a starter box, just a Du-Bro pit caddy, jug of fuel and the basher of my choice, that's all I carry.
So far the only PS engine out there is the XTM .21 and the Ofna, but I'd like to stay away from the Hyper engines but I'm not scared of XTM, just leery (parts replacement are non-existent through my LHS) but the OS .21 VG(P)ES looks like a contender and I'd like to stay with OS.

Any recommendations? :bored:

Try to find an OS .21 RGX, I have one on a GS Storm Pro buggy.Good power and set it and forget it carb.

I ran the ofna Hyper 8 port in my rc10gt for a while. It was truely the most reliable engine I have ran. Started every time. I only put 4 gallons through it before I sold it, but never one hiccup from it!

The only 21's I've ever run were the OS 21RG and the Omega 21 Comp. I had two omega's, one I bought new, the other I bought barely used. Neither of them would tune well. From about 1/4-3/4 throttle, it was all blubbery and wouldn't give good power.

I've had two 21RG's and I have been witness to 4. A friend of mine broke two con-rods before he hit a gallon. I broke a crank shaft with 8 gallons on the engine. My second one busted a ball bearing in the rear bearing. The piece went through the engine and destroyed it, that was at the 3 gallon mark.

The one that I broke a crankshaft on, I replaced the crankshaft with one of the ones my friend had from his dead engines. I ran 12 gallons through that thing without issue. I had it pinched at 12 and I've run another 3 or 4 through it. It's now on a shelf in case I need a engine.

It may be a easy to tune engine, but at a 25% success rate from catastrophic failure isn't very good.

I guess I got a good rgx? got it from mcvikj? He said it had around 5 gallons on it and needed a pinch, you could pull the pullstart cord and the buggy would stay on the floor,it was like it didnt have the glowplug in,but the damn thing ran another 4 gallons like that, didnt perform real well,I just put a new piston/sleeve and con. rod in it,backed out the needles alittle, fired first pull NS and ran about a quart without flaming out during break-in.I wish I had a truckload of these engines.

The OS.21RG was discontinued. The only OS engine that I'll stay away from is the .21 vg(P), it's just a tame .21, no serious power out put, I'm leaning towards the VG(P)ES, the newest one with the roto stat plate, I figure I could just swap a pull starter on to it.

Ya the rgx was discontinued but you can still buy them NIP off ebay pretty cheap. And there are still plenty of parts out there for them so I'm gonna keep running mine.Put about another quart threw it today, just started leaning it out of break in,I am very impressed so far.

The OS.21RG was discontinued.

It existed for a long time. It was around when I first got into the hobby 6 or 7 years ago. It was $140 then and it was $140 when it was discontinued.

I was surprised when OS dropped the price so much on the 18TM. I bought my for $220 out the door at my LHS. A month later the 3.3 hit the shelves at $160. Now you can buy the 18TM at tower for $140... At least I had mine for a year or so before the price drop.

I have had three Picco Omega 21 Xt's and they all ran well. I still have one that is new that I have yet to try but I am not doubting its reliability.

I'm still kicking myself looking for a good PS.21, so for the time being I'll just drop on something like an Axial.28RR, I really dig the cooling head.
This Hyper7 I bought from Monkey Wrench is friggin' nuts, tough, tough, tough. It loves to fly!!

Mine were/are Omega 21 Comp 3 port engines. They were before the X series I believe. I never did find any info online about them. I found that at horizon for about 6 months after I bought mine at the LHS, then it was discontinued...
