If you play, do you have an opinion on a Dean Vendetta Resurrection Electric?

My son wants one and I don't know jack about them. Shop has one on sale. The DMT pickups have been changed to X whatever that means. LOL

I've never persoanlly picked one up, but I've also never heard anything bad bout them. I generally play Fenders

Dean is typically a good quality guitar. I've never owned one, but I've never heard really bad things about them. If you're going to invest in a guitar the big thing is just to invest in a reputable name. Dean is good. For metal/shred guitars I tend to lean towards Ibanez or Jackson. I currently only own a Charvel 475 (which is made by Jackson) and I like it. But for what you're going to pay for that Dean, you might want to see if he'd be interesed in something like a Standard Stratocaster or maybe even an Epiphone Les Paul. If you budget around $500 for the guitar you can get some good midline stuff.

Thanks for the responses. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a piece of junk.

He tried several on Saturday and kept coming back to the Vendetta. It's lighter than the rest he tried and the strings are easy for him to play. I suspect the fact that there are skulls on the Vendetta might have something to do with it as well. LOL

I was impressed when I was in the other room at the shop and heard the beginning of For Whom the Bell Tolls. I didn't realize it was my son until I walked back and saw him sitting there with guitar in hand.

He's turning 12 on 3/5 and this will be his gift. 20% off at the local guitar shop so I pulled the trigger yesterday and it's now hidden away. He will be blown away on his birthday.

His instructor who can flat out tear it up on an electric has recommended we get a Fender Mustang amp for him as well. He says the $100 model will be perfect at this stage since it's an all in one unit so the in-laws will probably get it for him.

I must admit. Even though I don't play and have zero musical ability (he gets it from his mom), I can't wait to get my hands on it and make noise that will make peoples ears bleed for a 1 mile radius around my house.

That's a cool guitar.

If I had the money I would be getting a JS100 from Ibanez.

Good job Rob. I know he'll love it. I bought my daughter a cheap guitar last year for Christmas. She's already playing coffeehouse shows with a friend. And they got an offer to record some stuff this summer because they've been writing their own songs. so I know how cool it is to see your kid having a ball. I played a lot when I was young and I really like seeing her do it now.
so I hope he really enjoys it. It's a ton of fun even if it goes nowhere.

Learning music is good for kids. It helps them learn about different area as well to learn appreciation of different types and styles of music.

and, yeah, I think he likes the guitar because of the skulls. lol
