Just a tip for newbs like my self:)

Well the other weekend I screwed up a receiver trying to install the wire into the tube. I tried oil and it didn't phase it at all. This next time around I figure I would try something a little weird for a change. I went down to the local hardware store and found some fience wire that would barely fit into the tube. I shoved this all the way through cleaning out the tube of rubber from the antenna I screwed up. Then I went over and found some 28 brass gauge wire. This stuff is very thin and should be easy to slide right through. So I bought it and headed home. Once I was home I cut a pice of this wire more than long enough to fit through the tube. It went in and through pretty dang easy. Then on the one side I spirialed the wire around the antenna wire. It was pretty simple after that, I just pulled the wire right on through with zero issues.

One of the best way to get the wire thru the tube is to use corn starch  . Just put some in your hand and run the wire thru it. It will slide right thru the tube.

That whole oil the tube trick must be child proof for me...I simply screwed up a receiver trying it :ponder2: :) That 28gauge brass wire took about a second to do and was mess free ;) I'm just glad I got the truck back together and working well

You don't need the whole bottle to do it.

i've had a lot of luck with graphite lubricant. same principle as cornstarch, just a little mo slippery. :2cents:

or you could drop a pin attached to a string down there and then tie the string to the antennae and then pull it up

sometimes if u even have little bends in the wire it wont go threw, just run ur fingers across it pinching it and it will become more strait.. should easily slide through after that unless u got some junk in ur antenna tube..

All of the above will work just fine. I personally like to get all the kinks out of it, Then rub some baby powder on my fingers or hand and rub it on antenna and put it in the tube and slide it on thru. Works great for me.

I use a sewing needle and thread. Works perfect everytime and adds weight so the needle and wire just slides all the way thru.

for me i slide a string of soldering led inside the tube and shave some wire isolator from the wire antenna ( just a little so you could solder the tip of the led to the tip of the wire) wala! its done just pull out the led and its there..

My secret i got all my friends doing is using a pice of fishing line. Not no damn 20 pound test just some 4 pound will do nicely. Thread it through and tie it to the atenna and pull it threw. Bam you done. And if your a fishing fool like me you have boxes of line laying around this is a great use for it. And I'm shure a 300yard spool for 5$ is alot cheaper than wire.

P.S. Another great use for fishing line, 60 pound test works great as body clip retainers!

cornstartch /baby powder and keep tension on the wire and hold it towards ground

I know this is an old thread but I just found it while I was having the same problem... Search is your friend:D

I tried the fishing line trick like Bryson suggested and BAM! done in 30 secconds. Just gotta tie it real tight and at the very end of the antenna. Thanks for the tip Bryson.
