I believe they got the idea from the show American Chopper. If I recall they were messing around one episode with ballons, gas, acetylene, and a pipe.

What the hell were they gonna do with a balloon full of acetylene? It didnt say what it was even intended for. Some peoples kids...

Yeah, I was going to ask something along the same lines. What was the goal of having the balloon full of acetylene anyway? Oh, it's absolutely a Darwin move (or would Kelvin be more appropriate) but I've never heard of folks setting off balloons of acetylene before. Would it produce something different than, say, a balloon full hydrogen or some other flammable gas? Just wondering.

It was actually pretty cool but cmon... fill the damn balloons on sight and ignite immediately any 6 year old should know that balloons can generate a crapload of static, that static was half the fun.

Well, at least they don't have to worry about room for the bandages on their heads...

Dang, I can only imagine the pressure generated by the bang. Can you imagine the people in traffic around these brain surgeons?

They're extremely lucky the bang didn't set off the gas tank.

Wonder if they are any relation to that kid AJ that was on here a year or so ago???

I worked at a job once that some of the guys had an acetylene cannon set up. Would shoot a 2-liter coke bottle full of water. I was young then. Would scare the hell out of me now. We were out in the boonies, but I figure the coke bottle was going about 1/2 a mile or so.

Those idiots are lucky as hell.

Ya mean the UniBeaver? He's still around here. Altho, his speciality is gun powder and glow plugs, if memory serves. I wonder if his folks ever got that 'anonymous tipoff' or not....?

My grandpa did that a long time ago when he had his semi. He filled an old bald tire half-way full of the stuff and set it off with a REAAAALLY long remote lead, buried quite a way into the dirt. It was kinda like the final scenes of Tremors, minus all the tomato soup.

that reminds me of a science demo we had in 5th grade. my buddy's dad was a chemist for chevron so he came and did a little show for all the kiddies in school. one thing he did was fill 2 balloons, one with helium and one with hydrogen. then he held a candle up to them and popped em. well, my class was the first one up and when he popped the hydrogen one it blew all the ceiling tiles above him straight to hell and gone. there he was covered all in white dust trying to act like that was supposed to happen or something. i'll never forget that 'til the day i die.
