hello.

i just now put on a new coolant head and after talking to a few of the rcnitrotalk members i got it to work. well now, of all things, it will not start. (i have the ez start). what happens is that once i put the ez start in, and press the button, it makes a one-second pppptt, and then the motor LED light on the ez start goes out? thanks in advance.

i charged my ez start battery and that happened. the glow plug light on the ez start is on, but i'll change it anyway. what do u mean by "piston pinched at TDC"? what is a/the TDC? thanks again.

i tried un-flooding it too.... didnt work. neither the glow plug.

Does it turn over with the E-Z start if the glow plug is out of the motor?

Do you have the copper shim/washer hthat goes between the glow plug, and the head?

If so, you can try to loosen the glow plug a bit to get it started. Just barely loosen the glow plug until the E-z start will turn it over. You will hear a light hissing because there will be a bit of a leak at the glow plug. Once it is started you can tighten the plug back up.

hey jmaxx
"piston pinched at TDC" means piston pinched at "top dead center" the piston sleve is shaped slightly like a cone that is the top is slightly smaller than the top so sometimes the piston gets stuck all the way at the top and needs to be unstuck. I'm not sure how to do it but i think u can rotate the flywheel but dont take my word for it I'm not sure

Top Dead Center.

ABC-constructed engines (aluminum piston, brass sleeve, chrome walls) are designed for a tight fit at the top of the stroke.

When you say "one-second pppptt" is the engine turning at all?

Remove the glow plug and see if the EZ-start turns your engine over. This will let you know your EZ-start is working and clear a flooded engine at the same time.

Any time you shut off a nitro engine you should let it cool with the piston at BDC. (Bottom Dead Center). Otherwise the piston can pinched as the engine cools. If it's a tight fit then your EZ-start may not turn it over. I think that's about the only thing they don't mention in the Traxxas manual.

(It's so embarrassing to make these posts and repeat recommendations by members that beat you to the punch!)

Thanks Lykan & Sbb4us!

the e-z start safty is engaging. did you cheeck your exaust. it could be that your exoust pipe is flooded with nitro. Tip the car on the side and let it drain out. Also when you try starting it open your full tank lid. This will prervent full from entering the line cleaing the engien. That or a gear in your e-z start syestem is jamed. Take it of and put it back on all of the above happen to me before.

ok, i'll drain the exhaust and try unscrewing my glow plug some. i hope that works... i'll also check my piston sleeve and try to unloosen it. can i just do that by rotating the flywheel until it is at TDC? i will try everything you all have mentioned. thanks guys for all of the help!

It still sounds flooded to me.

Try using an external glow plug heater instead of the one that's built into the ezstart. I know when i did this, i had 100% better luck getting it running. One, it doesn't drain juice from the bats and twok, you know it's working. That little lead wire has issues.
