I just went through a set of spur gears, and I was wondering if any company makes aluminum spur gears for HPI Nitro R40. I know the pinions are aluminum, but all the spur gears I see are plastic. Anyone???

How long did your plastic ones last? You may be better off just buying another set of plastic as any type of metal gear is going to slow the car down. It will at least hinder acceleration due to the extra rotational mass.

As long as your gear mesh is set properly you shouldn't have a problem with stripping gears. I would get a new set of plastic gears and make sure the mesh is set perfecty.

That's the problem, the engine shifted over a little while i was at full speed, and destroyed the gears, especially first. What can I do to keep the engine in place. The car is only a few days only, and I love it so far. BTW, I already tried threadlock.

try some small locking washers and thread lock,if you have an aluminum gear and the engine moves it will destroy that gear also and may even mess up you clutch bell

Thanks for the sanding idea. However, I know some trucks have aluminum spur gears, are there any for touring onroad cars? I don't care so much for the lost power, my picco .12 gives me plenty of it, making the car uncontrollable at high speeds.

Metal spurs are normally only used in high torque and offroad situations... so I don't know if anything would exist for your on-road needs.

Check Robinson, GH and maybe Hardcore. I know all of those make spurs for different vehicles, but I don't recall any of them being on-road.

Aluminum will also transfer heat, so keep that in mind if your using it on a twospeed setup if you find it. The extra heat from the engine may mess up the clutch shoes themselves.

I don't know on-road, but from what I've seen, the two speed trans are external an run right off the engine instead of being inside of a trans case like the maxx or savage.

i wouldnt get an aluminum spur, companies make the plastic ones, because spur gears are easily changed, so your spur gear will strip instead of the other hard to reach gears.
