Well, just had my first 4 spider diff cup go. The sides of the cup itself got torn up as well as the gears inside. I wanted to hear from people who got the aluminum diff cups, raced them, abused them for some time and have checked them on a regular basis. How have they held up? Pros and cons?

Are you talking about diff cases? If you are, they are stronger then the plastic, but when I ran my savage, the diffs were pretty good with just the 4 spyder gear mod. Aluminum diff cases are nice and hold up well, but are costly. I would only recommend if you have alot of diff failure.

my diff just went out due to the plastic fatigue of the case also i think i saw a spider diff complete on ebay for 55.00 i think I'm going to give it a try it comes with alumionum case ill look for a link!1

There are 3 guys running Savages at the local track. All 3 had the same problem in the same week. They all went to aluminum after seeing how the plastic cup wore.

Yeah hudler, these.

Rolex, have you asked these guys how the cups are holding up inside?

I know it's not the same truck, but I ran maximizers al (7075) on my maxx and they held up a lot longer than the POS stock ones. I ran about 6 gallons through them before the outdrive hole was wore enough to cause slop. The internal rails the spider gears shafts go in still looked like new though.

Here's the one that maximizer makes for a savage: Maximizer Cup

Maximizer's Site

I don't see anything that says it's made of 7075, but it does say that on thier maxx diff cups...

Well, the way I understand it is that the Savage's 25 produces so much torque it ends up killing the diffs. Since the Maxx doesn't have such a big engine I would say it would be a bad comparison. Thanks anyway, olds.

I was running a 2.5hp 21 in my maxx when I used them... I'm now using the same engine in my savage.

I figure if their 1/10 version held up as well as it did, their version for the savage will hold up even better.

That's a good point but I don't feel like being the guinea pig to try them out, same with the GH al. diff cups. :hammer: I want to see how they held up for someone with the same setup as myself. Although I have heard a 21 Maxx does some abuse to the drive train and everything attached to it.

They're still too new. None have been in for more than 2 weeks, now, and we've had a lot of rain. More rain, less track time.

I've been running on my 4 spider mod since I installed the Hyper 8 port. That motor has since died and I'm now running the 24.7 Pro and my diffs are still perfect!I'm talking 12-14 gallons of hard abuse and they are still fine. These are the original cups that came in the Savage21 too. I've read a few articles on Savage Central where people found a plastic buggy housing that fits with no mods. I believe it was for a Hot Bodies buggy but the plastic was much better quality and they were holding up nicely last I heard.I've also read about guys trying to use the GH alloy housings but the 4 spider gears wouldn't fit or something.I'll try and find the articles and post some links.

please do post those links. not sure exactly what I done to destroy my 4 spider modded diffs but they are shot and have 2 gallons on them or less.

FLM (Fast Lane Machine) also makes savage cups... they just haven't gotten them on their website yet. I emailed them and they replied within a few hours stating that they just started making them, sent me a photo and they are pricing them at $18 a piece.

The email is at home, or I'd post the pic they sent.
