Air filter question.

After a hard day of running, and the track was extrememly dusty, I found that my filter was more dirty than usual. The dirt/dust had penetrated deeper than usual. No harm to the engine but I think I should run the extra foam jacket on the outside. My questions are:
1. Should I oil the outer jacket (the inner one is already oiled) ?
2. Will I need to re-tune much ?

Are you running a motor saver type air filter?? If so than a pre foam is not a bad idea. Now if you are in fact running a pre foam than no oil should be necessary. Just clean is all.

Yes, I am running a motosaver. The inner foam is oiled and the fine mesh screen on the motosaver housing catches the larger pieces but doesn't do much for the dust. I thought the outer sleeve would help with that. Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure if I know what your talking about since I don't have motor savers. ARe you talking about oiling the inside hole or around the outside? I just put oil in a zip lock bag in the corner and then drop my filter in and squeeze it to make sure I get everything oiled.

I can see where running a pre foam would hurt performance if it is oiled too much. If you add too much oil than you are looking at air restriction and making your engine run rich. You could put little bits of air filter oil on it but I wouldn't do too much.
