RC Driving Style
Okay, i quit messing with my rc because it was very frustrating(sp?), and i figured i would let it sit for awhile. So i found an old rc driver mag, and i decided to fix my rc. the problem is that i lost the carb neck screw, and the carb falls of or shifts, and the car shuts off. So i would like to know how i can temporarly keep the carb from falling off. this is driving me crazy! :flaming:

Its not only a matter of the carb falling off, it a matter of an air leak giving you lean conditions.

Go to your LHS and spend the %.89 and fix it properly.

Yes i see your point, i just wanted a quil fix so i wouldnt have to wait 2 weeks fro them to get it in.

permatex it in until you get the nut/screw, clean it real good apply high temp permatex, red silicone let it dry and try it.If it comes loose quit running and wait for the nut/screw.

yeah, you're right. i guess that if i waited this long, i can wait a couple more weeks.

wouldnt that heat up, melt, and run into the engine?

I use this on all my rc carbs with fasteners and even the backplate on some,I have even used it in field repair for exhaust manifold leaks, between the header and engine. My 04 Yamaha Banshee is all sealed up with this stuff.

fix it right. BUT, get the red silicone if you have to, its heat resistant up to 650 degrees F i think. Quick little fix. NOT BEST!

Just be careful with the temporary fix, man. If the carb falls off while it's running, you could get dirt in there, then it's bye-bye engine.

Personally, I'd wait, but that's just me.

Ok, new complication (if thats what you want to call it). I was EXTREMLEY bored, so i decided to take the old raze apart, and give it a good cleaning. you know restore it to new (that thought was not accomplished). While i was doing this i lost the screw that attaches the throttle linkage to the servo. So i remembered that i had some hpi machine screws, and while i was looking for them, i found the spare screws that hold on the pull start (since new ones came with it). They looked just like the screw for the carb. So i grabed one, and it worked! BUT then i ran into a problem. Once the screw got almost all the way in, it got very easy to turn, so i stoped, and checked the carb. Unless it is at a 15 degree angle, it wont stay on. And i'm pretty sure that is the right screw (right threads, and length) What should i do? What could be the problem? Stripped?

Alright, i think i have figured it out. okay today i was trying to start the raze again, and when i had the carb cocked at a 15-20 degree angle it was tight so there was no air leak. the pullstart grabed through the full motion which lead me to belive that the loose carb is what caused such low compression that the pull start slacked to much? so hopefully a new carbneck screw schol fix my problems. hopefully.

pull off the carb, clean it with carb cleaner or brake part cleaner, put a thin coat of red permatex around the carb where it goes into the engine crankcase, install your make do skrew/s and let it set about 4 hours. If you do this you will not have any airleaks around your carb for sure.

I wouldn't use the brake cleaner if i were you.. I'm almost for sure that will kill your seals and I'm not sure but the carb cleaner may also do they same.. just to be safe i would use a little denatured alcohol in a spray bottle and put a dab the "sensor safe" stuff on like a paper plate and use a toothpick to just smear a thin layer around the carb where it connects just like joneser said but let it completely cure over night (or 24 hours as it says on the pack) and get the correct part to fix your engine you will have no more air leaks and you will be sure your carb isn't going to fall off in mid run.

Oh and your profile says your running a duratrax raze and i believe the engine is a G-27CX and if it is this is the carb retainer http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLDJ2&P=7
