Sorry, I didnt know where to post this, so I'm a n00b.

I really wanna get one of these trucks. Complaints? Likes?

I want a nitro because it LOUD, and that I dont have to wait for the batts to charge! I really want one!!

How durable are the parts? I want to be able to jump this thing too.

Its a 13 pound rig!

I have wanted one of these since I walked into the LHS and saw it. Just fell in love, you know?

While I have no experience with the Aftreshock, Losi does make a pretty decent truck and has pretty good support. However, while nitro is an exciting truck to drive they still have batteries that need to be charged. There are a few additional costs to owning one, not trying to turn you off but like you said, total noob. Do your homework, i.e. reserch, and be sure that this is what you want. Good luck and welcome aboard.

Well... I have one. The axles appear to be weak and my engine has been frustrating from the start. Difficult break-in, air leaks galore. The stock shocks leak and the arms/c-hubs are weak.

I've done the following:
Upgraded to RPM arms
made a steel roll bar to protect the engine and help the body from collapsing on roll overs
replaced stock wheels/tires with t-maxx 2.5 wheels/tires to help with less leverage on the arms/c-hubs
installed an RPM gear gaurd, required modifying to fit right (stock doesn't have back of gear protection, LST2 gear gaurd is a better install so I'm told)
Shocks leak, replacing with LST2 shocks. Stock shocks work well, but leaky.

All in all though, I like it. It handles great, gets the power to the ground, quick reacting and likes big air. In the end, it might be cheaper to get a LST2. You get better axles, stronger shocks, stronger arms, stronger axle carriers, a better radio and a fully functioning trans.

I didn't want the trans, large hub wheels and I didn't need the radio. I did a trans mod by switching a couple internal gears around and grinding a bit inside the case to get a higher top speed since I went smaller with the tires. I sold the radio on eBay for $70, so I paid $330 for mine in the end.

If you do get one, make sure to get a flat 2/3A 5 cell receiver pack and charger. It doesn't come with one and they don't recommend trying to use alkalines with the dual steering servos, which by the way, work really well.

Wow. Thanks for the reply. Do you still want the tires?

i bought a used AS and it ran great for the first few tanks. Now when I try to start it, it starts to idle and then cranks up the RPM's without going into gear or giving it any throttle. I'm new to gas and have no idea why this is happening. Please help?

Is the throttle servo moving at all or is it staying still? If the servo isn't moving, then you either have an air leak or your engine is really lean.

Mine leaked badly out of the box. The fuel filter seal was destroyed out of the box. That made my break-in day very miserable. After that, my backplate seal was leaking all over, so I tore that apart, cleaned it and RTV sealed it along with the carb. Then the LSN was leaking. At first I thought it was the throttle barrol leaking, but I took the LSN out, cleaned it and the port it screws into with DA and a q-tip. I lubed the o-ring with associated green slime and it appeared to stop the leak.

Now it runs decent, but hot. It runs good with lots of power at 260-270.

I don't have great expectations for this engine... but I do get wheelies with t-maxx 2.5 tires/rims and I did the trans mod to flip the gears around. So I didn't loose much top speed due to the smaller tires.

OLDS97 I use the regular servo saver that comes on the truck. The only thing is, is that the servo it self is a little to big I had to do a little drimeling. It work great.

olds97,

I don't have any leaks at all and the servo is staying still. I cleaned out the fuel system and the revving up stopped. Now I just need to adjust the clutch I think, as it has problems popping into gear. I have been told that this is a regular issue with this truck from my LHS, he thinks that I need to be theTitanium clutch for it to perform better. I have read here that the LST parts are interchangable with the Aftershock, is there anything in particular that you would recommend. I love the truck when it runs, it's just frustrating when you don't know the ins and outs to getting it tuned and setup.

Being a "noobie" can be fun!

He thinks you need a titanium clutch because it puts money into his pockets.

I have yet to have a problem with the stock clutch. On pavement, it pulls wheelies on command. On grass, it does it all the time.

Does it ever shift into second gear? Your clutch bell clutch could probably stand being cleaned. I took mine apart and cleaned it around 3/4 gallon. The shoes were kind of shiny and the bell had black dust everywhere. I cleaned the shoes and bell with DA, then I lightly sanded the shoes and the inside of the bell. It grabs really well now.

Check your slipper. It may be set too loose. Or, your two speed clutch needs loosened a bit.

I have not been able to get it running long enough to see if it hits second gear! I cleaned the clutch bell and sanded it last night and it finally started to grab, and I adjusted the second gear clutch screws as they were really far out. I have not checked the slipper yet, I have not even messed with that.

The other thing that kills me is that I seem to get it running good at a decent tempature, and then after the first tank I can't seem to get it to start again.

I would like to say that all of the help is greatly appreciated! I have been on other non R/C related message boards trying to learn things about other hobbies that I do, and I must say that this forum has been extremely patient and very helpful in new truck tuning. Other boards treat newbies like crap, and I commend all of you for your patience!

All motors will leak out of the box...Never assume that a new motor is ready to start.. please inspect your investments and Seal them if they leak or not...this is basic mechanics on any two stroke or any motor for that matter....You pay good money for this moment of fun. Be Wise. This is a hobby/sport. Dont rush it..
