I hope you can help here. I'm having a shifting problem. Let me start by saying I replaced both low and hi gears, cam, one way bearing, and clutch. I changed the gears because I thought maybe they had some play in them causing binding problems. A bearing pin fell out of the one way bearing so I had to replace it. Thought the clutch on the second gear may have been slipping not letting it shift. These are all stock parts.

I made sure it was put back just like the book shows etc.. Seems no matter what I do it wont shift. I adjusted the screws on the clutch, both in and out but nothing changes. Now it runs its good in 1st but it winds out and over runs the motor. The owner at my LHS worked on it with me and said he has never seen such a problem. He is a losi dealer and has never had this problem on an Aftershock that he couldnt solve.

I was wondering if anyone had experienced this problem. Btw it was shifting normal earlier during qualifying today but during the race I lost 2nd and have not been able to solve it. Thanks for any advice.

Have you tried new clutch shoes and springs for the two speed? A buddy of mine had a similar issue and the shoes were hanging up on the screws/springs. We installed new shoes (with new bolts/springs) and it started working properly.

Yeah, first thing I did was replace the shoes(kit) and went from there. With each run I would try another part hoping to solve the problem. It seems so simple but it has me stumped, but thats not hard to do. LOL

Is your slipper slipping on you? If it's too loose or severely worn or put together incorrectly, it won't transfer enough power to the trans to get it to shift. The same can be said for your clutch shoes. Excess slip on either the CB shoes or slipper clutch will cause your problem.

Well the slippers seem to be fine as well as the clutch shoes. It will smoke the tires and move well but when it should gain speed it kinda levels out and the engine tops out. Not like its slipping but if you were driving a car with auto trans and it was in low 1 instead of drive. Before you could hear the distinct sound when it would shift from 1st to 2nd. Now it won't. The one thing I do notice is when I let off the throttle it sound as if it was hanging in gear and as the truck slows down so does the engine. Weird!! I just don't know.

Are you sure the engine is tuned up? Does it shift into 2nd while holding it with the tires off the ground?

Engine is running good, and no it will not shift with tires off the ground. I tried that also to test it. Its has to be something simple but its beyond me at this time. Bad thing is I have only had this truck for about 2 weeks. Bought it new 10-10. But I know things happen. I thought maybe the 2nd gear shoes were to tight so I loosened the screws on them hoping to get it to get stuck in 2nd just to try it but no such luck.

I had a similar problem and for the life of me, I couldent figure it out. I eventually just said screw it and bought a LST2 two speed. no problems since!

LOL, well I will have my eight T thursday so maybe that will fix it!! But I do want to fix the problem because either my wife or son will be racing it soon.

The only thing I haven't replaced is the slippers. Maybe I should try that. The owner at my LHS said he really doesn't believe its the slippers because he doesn't see that problem to much. He was just as confused as I was. He was pulling parts off the shelf to try but nothing seemed to help.

I think we miscommunicated! I only bought the two speed. not a whole LST2. lol

Oh, crap. it ran outta gas... well, time to buy a new one!!

If the slippers are the only thing you havent tried, then id say those are the problem.

I will pick some up tomorrow. Hate to say it but I can't those being the problem. I bottomed out the slipper adjust to lock them in so it shouldn't make a difference.

My wife was with me today and while I was taking those LITTLE ball bearing off the front I told her if we lost one that it was going to cost us a $100 bucks to replace it (new gear set :) ). She found every one of the things!!

You can try cleaning the slipper pads first for a test. Since you have an aftershock I assume that you don't have the hi/low range? Was just wondering if it is in low range and you just not hearing the shift since it comes so quick in low.

Congrats on the 8T. Nice Ride!

When I first had my LST2(same 2 speed assembly) I had the same problem, I took the 2 speed shoes out unscrewed them to the point that I could see clear seperation between them and wiggle them back and forth. Then I put them back to 5 turns out. presto the thing was shifting fine. I think in my case the shoes just got stuck together and couldn't come apart to shift. Good Luck.....

I'd suggest the same as syphon. Take the two speed shoes out, back them screws out 5-6 turns and work the shoes open/closed a few times in your hands to make the threads of the screws grind away at the edges of the holes they go through. I thing 5 turns out from bottom is the stock setting. Also, lightly sand the contact area of the shoes and the inside of the ring on the spur gear to rough them up. Then give it a try.

Just a thought, when you put in the new shoes, did you put the little silver weights/stops in each shoe? Those are necessary to have or the clutch will never engage.

Thanks to all for all the advice!

The weights are in place, the screws have been adjusted (bottom out and turn out five turns). I thought as another person said that they may have been sticking so I replaced them with new.

Before you could really hear it shift, now just one speed.

I called losi and passed it by them, they said to try cleaning the bell on the gear. Could be dirty but it still wouldnt shift when I first installed the new gear.

Thinking about buying the upgrade kit to the metal gears etc... I just hate not being able to figure this out.

Question, has anyone heard of or seen a problem where maybe the motor clutch slips causing this problem? It pulls just fine off the line so I was wondering if it could be loosing something at higher rpms????

Just a thought.

Thanks
Tim

I was starting over again for the 12th time or so and noticed something binding in the trans... Maybe the input shaft is binding(gear, bearing, etc) causing the one way bearing to lock up not letting it free wheel so that the 2nd gear is able to turn the trans....???? What you think?? Now it will dig into the trans. Wish me luck.

Tim

i had that problem once and it was the clutch shoes on the motor ... but the key to all the problems is get the dudes single speed hub it eliminates everything but its more for racers than bashers.... you lose a ton of weight/rotating mass eliminates oneway bearing, two speed clutch the whole ball of wax its been the best upgrade I've done yet brent
