I am completely new to the RC world and am hoping that someone on this forum could provide me with the advice I need. I am in the process of making a 1930's wooden pond yacht (27" long) remote controlled for my grandchildren.

By trial and error (and amazon returns) - I have learned that I really need the transmitter to handle the following with easy set up:

a) throttle curve - I have no idea how fast this boat will go and need to limit the speed considerably to make it useable by young grandchildren
b) a joystick throttle control that automatically returns to neutral when let go.
c) easily programable control to limit steering servo to 90 degrees or less (less than 45 degrees either side of center as the tiller has limited range.
d) has to be CE compliant as the boat will be used in Geermany

I am thinking I would prefer a transmitter that has the two joysticks rather than the trigger style.

I thought the Flysky i6X would have the features I need - but it does not apparently have the automatic throttle return to neutral.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you all. As an alternative to swapping out the transmitter for a new brand, I see that I can buy and fit a"Self-Centering Throttle Mode Change Part". to the Flysky FS i6X Does anyone have any experience doing this (maybe on a different brand) How easy was it?

I have managed to fit the self-centering throttle mode change part" to my Flysky FSi6x. However, I have not been able to figure out how to set up the ESC to recognize the throttle when it is moved into the reverse direction. I have two ESC's 1) a DYS 30a which would not appear to support reverse and a Hobbywing Skywalker 40A V2-ubec which in addition to the three wire (white red black) connector it has an additional connector which I understand to be something to do with reversing the direction of the motor. However, I am at a complete loss on how to set up the FlySky so that the throttle will change the direction to make the boat go in reverse Using the Skywalker ESC the motor is spinning in the forward direction when the throttle is pushed forward, stops when the throttle is let go and returns to center - but does nothing when I pull the throttle in the reverse direction.
Any step by step advise - or link to a clear (idiot-proof!) you-tube video on how to do this will be very gratefully received.

What’s the specific model of ESC you have?

Many ESCs will have a racing mode where “reverse” is turned off, or only accessible if you double-pull down.

You can turn these modes off in most ESCs.

I believe the esc you are trying to use is for air applications. Finding a suitable waterproof esc now will save you headache and heartbreak later.
What motor are you using on this project?

As far as making the esc work... there is a calibration process that teaches the radio and esc how to play well together.

Esc's can also be programmed, tho not all of them can be.
Esc manufacturers offer programming cards for not much money and are very easy to use or you can use built in 'counting beeps, flashng lights and button pressing' method. I don't care for counting flashing lights... 🤷‍♀️

Each esc is going to have different capabilities and processes.
