and those hand held temp guns are so dang expensive :juggle: i might go for an onboard too but it's not as accurate is an hand held gun w/emissivity i heard

really? anyone have both that can compare the results? How do you know if it reading accurately?

I have both and they always fall within a couple of degrees of eachother. I now have 2 on-boards, 1 R.S. temp gun and one Craftsmen temp gun. All of them are within a couple degrees. I like the Craftsmen gun since it has a Red Dot so you are certain what you are temping, AND, it has a Max Temp button, that when on, will keep taking temp and only display the highest one hit. This really is a kickass option.

how much is the craftsman? what is the best option as for temo gauges or guns?

Honestly I like the Craftsmen for a gun the best. It cost me 30$ on sale during Craftsmen Club week.

I know it was on their site but I can't find it for some reason. Ill dig it out and post a part number. I know there is a pic on this site somewhere as well as a link.

The on-board temps gauges are great too ( I just picked up my 2nd ) The reason I like them is because you do not have to fumble with anything. The Venom has that great temp recall button which is something you can't do with a gun no matter how good it is. Pull up, take a look, press a button if you like to see the high temp, and keep running....

I have a use for both which I why I have them both.

Which one do you think fits the bill?

Well does the heat from the engine mess it up or damge it in anyway? I really want one so I can tune my engine better!!! I just don't want to waste money.

Yes thats it!!!

I forgot to mention - the one other thing I liked about the craftsmen is that it uses plain ole AAA batteries!!! No watch type batteries or weird expensive ones. Just plain ole AAA.

The Raytek I own uses a 9V battery.

So there is another one! See, to me, not only does it have to be good in performance, but practical too! 9v batteries can also be purchased as rechargeables

The Radio Shack temp gun has the RayTech internals for anyone what was wondering as well.

I havent cracked open the Craftsmen to find out if it is too....
