Just a quick warning to people with pull starters. Yesturday I had some trouble starting my savvy X, after about 10 mins fkn around with it I got her fired up and went out for a blast, until she fried the spur gear (again). What must have happened was the tugging on the pullstarter has either moved or twisted the engine positioning on the mount which gave me triangular gear meshing.

Got another rotostart backplate today to hopefully stop this ever happening again.

Another option is to loosen the glow plug a turn or 2 to lessen the compression. It doesn't affect the starting, but saves a lot of grief. Just remember to tighten it again as soon as shes running.

It should never take 10min to start you truck. Get your tune right and she should fire in under 5 pulls. Also you need to periodically check all the screws on your truck. If the motor mount screws were loose enough to move just pulling on the pull start imagine how far the motor would have moved on a nose down landing off a good jump.

Not trying to rag on you man, but the problem was not the pull starts fault.

best thing is 2 tune ur truck when its warm and then it should only take u about 2-5 times with the pullstart when its tuned right

I agree about the tuning guys, the problem i'm having with starting is the throttle servo, the trim doesn't work like it used to. I figured out last night that opening the carb 2mm with my finger allows the engine to start first pull, then letting go of the carb lets the truck go back to its idle perfectly. The thing is it is actually idling really well, but adjusting it to have a higher idle makes it roll off on me. any ideas?

adjust the trim on the radio at 0 and 1mm open on the carb with the idle set screw then you should have enough adjustment in the trim for your first start then when warm adjust back to a nice idle. also check your glow plug make sure it is good

Your clutch springs could be getting weak if you have some time on them. They get hot with the shoes/bell and loose their tension over time. I normally replace mine in my MT at least once a season... even if they are working ok. It's just a matter of time before they start dragging at low idle.

Ahh, k. will do.

Why can't I source clutch springs without the shoes? them clutch shoes cost more than the ones on my feet! lol.
