a storm for my 7 year old?

OK, it's for dad too! He has been bothering me for a couple of years to get him a nitro car. And thanks to the casino he is gonna have a christmas to remember! I put a Storm RTR, an HRC35625S servo, a DYN2550 fail safe and a tuned pipe #Y88604 (can anyone tell me who makes this? Yellow packaging) on layaway last week. I plan to install a TRS after break-in. My questions to you fine folks are as follows:

1. I am fairly mech. and elec. inclined, I shouldn't have much problem at all learning with this set-up, should I?

2. I have read on a couple of threads about "turning the throttle back" before letting someone else drive their r/c. Is this something i could do to limit the amount of throttle my son would have at his disposel? (if he ever gets to play with it!) If so, how do I go about doing it? If not is there someway to limit it?

3. I've seen everything out there from titanium to aluminum to carbon fiber to stock replacement parts... for a car that will most likely never see a track but will most assuredly see it's fair share of bashing, what should I replace parts with once they start breaking?

#1 - Absolutely not. The Storm RTR is a great kit to start with! I'd recommend at least familiarizing yourself with the layout of the buggy and such. I'd also highly recommend looking for setscrews and such that are metal to metal and locktighting them! Especially the center shafts.

#2 With the radio, you can adjust what I refer to as "throttle throw" which essentially means the same thing. The RTR comes with a JR XR3 does it not? If so, there is a real easy solution. That radio supports three different R/C setups. So you can have a custom setup for you and your son setting his throttle at 60% or whatever you feel necessary.

#3 The first thing I was going to suggest was a pipe. The stock one works good but it's LOUD. I see you've already covered that though. I would also recommend a new set of tires. The stock ones will be gone faster than you can say "soft rubber". If you get more serious, I'd say get the carbon fiber shock towers.

Thanks for the input! And the only reason that I said I planned to wait until after break-in is cuz my LHS said they were gonna help me with the break-in being as it's my first. But I guess it would be best to go through it with a bottle of locktite even before break-in!? And at that rate I *will* install the TRS first.

I can tell already that this is gonna end-up running me thousands of dollars!!! Already thinking about getting a truck just for dad! And haven't even gotten the boys out of layaway!

Well.. daddy gets the snowblower, while the son gets the Storm
Can build a nice track with the snowblower and the walls of the track are going to be soft, since its snow. Can't get any better than that.

It usually isn't too bad here in the "STL" on christmas as far as snow. Even so I have done some research and plan to make it as waterproof as possible. Either way... rest assured that dad & son *will* be pi$$ing off the neighbors come x-mas day! Snow or no snow! Have already concluded that I will have to buy some "street" tires. Will just have to get some tires that will catch, at least a little, in the snow. Besides, the "baby mama drama" would be unreal if I were to just give the boy a $800 gift just cuz it's tuesday!:devil: Think I will wait till x-mas!... Unless, one of you guys will let me give the ex-wife your fone number and let you deal with her! Yeah, I didn't think so!

you'll wanna get something with large treads fo th snow. Streat tires and even buggy tires get loaded up pretty quick.

You could always get some ofna 17mm wheels and a set of truck tires. Take a look at the pics of my Inferno with the truggy tires on it.....Mean as hell bro. Just gotta watch the tires dont hit the body.

The first set I tried I borrowed from a firend and they worked fine. Then I went out a bought my own and if I turn to far to the left it kicks up the body slightly and causes it to cover the opening of the exhaust pipe.

def make sure to balloon your electronics. A Fried reciever or servo is expensive. just search it theres tons of threads on it.

A throttle return spring, for if the servo loses power. Extra security on top of the fail safe.

while your at it, balloon the shocks too, makes them a million times easier to clean.
