well I replaced the steering servo in my savage with what was already in it,
a JR Z590M HIGH TORQUE SERVO .In another post I was told it didn't have aenough torque. My question is what is a reasonable priced servo that will do the job.my wife is limiting my spending (she just don't understand) .LOL!!!
I'm shooting maybe around $100 or so.:\

the JR 650 is reasonable. under 40 bucks and puts put about 130oz of torque. now you can go a bit more expensive, roughly 55 bucks and get the hitech 5645 that puts out 164 oz of torque at 6v or you can get the Hitech HS-7985mg digital servo for about 100 bucks. this one puts out about 172 oz of torque.

personally i run the JR 650 and feel it does the job i want it too.

I'm running a JR Sport St126, 126oz @ 4.8v, 142 oz. @ 6.0v. Around $35, sometimes wish it was a bit stronger still. I'd check out the 5645(as mentioned by savagefan04) though since it's under your price range and still more torque.

I'd go with the hitec 985MG, $70. Great servo that is sealed, so water won't be a big issue. It runs 172oz @.13 sec at 6V.

If money is really an issue, the JR Sport 126M or 650M (same servo, not sure why the price is different) are ok.

anybody else have a comment on the hitec 985MG ?they are on ebay from r/c superstore for $60 .

I run the HS 5985 mg on my Revo witch is basicly the same servo and its great.

I'm in needs of servo's too, but I'm not going to be racing my truck ( SAVAGE 25)around just bashing in cold wet weather, I want to get some pretty cheap ones and just plasti dip them if i ever find where i can buy the stuff! I tried Homdepot and Value and they dont know what I'm talking about...........

I know I already commented on them being good, but I currently run 2 of them. One has been through a winters worth of snow bashing and a years worth of use as a t/b servo in my aftershock. I like running stronger servos on MT's for t/b since there's so much heavy braking.

The other one ran in my revo for about 4 months as a steering servo, 2 seasons as a t/b servo in my 1/8 buggy and now about 2 gallons worth in a savage as a t/b servo.

So, both have had more than a years worth of use and they still work really good.

If I have another servo (steering in the savage or either in my jato) fry on me, I know I'll be replacing them with the 985's.

I have the JR Z590M in my savage 25 currently for T/B and steering and as you know the steering sucks.

I have the 590M in my jato as well. I have two on my aftershock for steering. When I upgrade those, I'll probably replace them with 2 of the JR Sport 126M servos. Running 2 985MG's for steering on that thing would be a waste and since it's setup for dual servos, the 126's would be plenty.

to pitbull Wal mart has a product that comes in a aeresol or brushable/dipping method called - liquid tape.
It is kept in the automotive electrical dept, close to headlight /fuses ect.

That stuff goes on a bit thinner and sticks a bit better than plasti-dip. I've used both. The liquid tape is a electrical tape substitute. It stays pretty flexible and doesn't crack like the plasti-dip did for me.

Thats good to know for when i buy my servo's. I was surpised when home depot didnt have it!

Although, for what it does, sealing the seams and screw heads of the servos with RTV does just as good of a job. The only area the plastidip works easier is around the wire lead. But even then, if you don't mind getting RTV on your fingers, working it into the wire boot works just as well. Considering that's where my plasti-dip cracked, it only appears to work better until vibration cracks it.

The plastidip looks nice though.

well I bought a new HS-985MG Coreless Ultra Torque Hvy Dty Metal Gear Servo
from ebay for $60 shipped.thanks for the recommendations

have savage 25 wondering what is better upgrade for steering iv heard other guys talk about some kinda cam? I'm kinda new to all the parts ..just wanna improve the crapy steering thanks

The "cam" is the steering assembly. It replaces the servo mounted servo saver (which sucks) with a more typical 1/8 scale steering assembly that has the servo saver built into the linkage. It's also adjustable to some extent.

Looks like this when put together:

A worthwhile upgrade if you don't have it. Makes the servo work easier and better.
