A buddy of mine was in a bit of a financial bind so I purchased his Nitro TC3 off of him for a reasonablly good price. The problem I have with it, is that the engine that is in the car is a bargain basement Dynamite .12 engine w/ pullstart. Looking around on Tower Hobbies, I see that Associated sells two types of kits.. One for side exhaust and one for rear exhaust. Will a rear exhaust engine simply not work in this car, and am I limited to a side exhaust engine? I apologize if this is a stupid question, but its been a long time since I've done Nitro Touring Cars (I love my Savage) and I really want to get this thing going :) The engine thats in it now is a slug (My 15lb monster truck can out perform the thing!).

That being said, what are my options as far as engines? For this particular chassis, what type of crank do I need? I'm probably an intermediate when it comes to tuning nitro engines... not a beginner and DEFINITLY NOT an expert ;)

Also another couple of little quirks with it. No matter WHAT I do I can't get the fuel tank to pressurize and get fuel up into the carb for the first time. I literally have to take the fuel line off the exhaust thats on the car, shove an allen key into it and then pull the start cord for about 20 minutes to get fuel into it. Would anyone suggest replacing the fuel tank to see if this eliminates the problem?

Anything else I should keep an eye out for being that I bought this used and am not sure what kinda abuse it was put through?

Again I apologize if these are remedial questions but really didn't know who else to ask :) I can swap turbos in an Audi S4, but I don't even know what engine will work in a 1/10th RC car haha ;)

zerin - Welcome to RCNT!!!

Here are the answers to your questions:

- side vs rear exhaust.
yes - u can put a rear exhaust engine in the car u have now. u will need to purchase the rear exhaust header and pipe fm AE, but that is all.
- engine choice.
personally, since u want something fast, but also want something easy to tune, the best choice out there, and one that will receive not arguement is the OS .12CV-RX. It will produce more than twice the HP that the current engine does, yet provide extremely easy tuning, and long life. Plus, its cheap, at about 120.00
- engine shaft type.
The NTC3 uses a short crankshaft. OS offers an engine specifically designed for this, however u can also go with the regular standard shaft, but u will need to dremel a portion of it off. The pilot shaft version will not work in this car.
- fuel feed issue
nine out of ten times, this is attributed to either oil buildup in the line, or small pinholes. replace the fuel tubing, and see if that solves your problem. if it doesn't, check the carb, and see if it is closing to far. Still having a problem? then u might check the tank.

that engine is the best version. however it will take some minor mods to make it fit. that is the standard crank version, so u will have to cut the crankshaft. its easy, though, and only takes about 5 minutes. it also has a slide carb, instead of a rotary carb, so u will need to change the throttle linkage.

this is the version that will drop right in

however, it has a rotary carb, which isnt as good. I would recommend the choice u picked out.

as for the header, if its a small dent, dont worry about it, but if it is pretty mangled, than get a new one, they are cheap. take a look in my gallery for pics of my NTC3 with the .15CV-R

The .12 cvr-x is what I originally had in my car. Great engine, i have nothing bad to say about it. BUT, if I were you, just go ahead and spend the extra $ and get the .15 cvr-x. You won't be disappointed. I just got the .15 and I'm really happy with it. BTW the .15 comes in a short shaft also, so you won't need to cut.

diver, the short shaft version isnt available with a slide carb, which in my opinion is manditory, that is the reason i mentioned cutting the shaft

That is true, well cutting isn't that bad either. Can be done by most hobby shops. Now that I saw how they do it, I'm gonna do it myself next time.
