Yup I sure was acting like a know it all wasn't I? Kwong you are SO right buddy. Feel free to post as NO one especially me has stomped on your opinion. This place is all about sharing different points of vue. Re-read your post and I sure you can see your words were meant to say pretty much hey thats not impressive, well I am sorry you are so jaded because you have seen tons of cars that could beat a R-1, but to me that is rare from what I have seen.

Alright guys lets simma down....this thread has my name on it and i really dont want it going to a free for all again like they use to...remember, new and improved waste land.

Humbolt...put it this way...ask yourself how fast most 1000cc motorcycles do in the 1/4 mile? Probably 11's or 10's. Now think about all the cars that do the same 1/4 mile time. It's not all that rare to have a car do the same 1/4 as a motorcycle if you think about it that way.

I dunno I've seen stock busas run int he low 5s on 1/8 at our poopy track and getting in 5s in a car is a lil bit tricky

Thank you for putting that into perspective for me Kwong.

Now a lot of you know me on the board as being a FACTS person. Sure when I like something I say hey I like that but when discussing facts about hp and speed whether it be a 1:1 or a 1:10 I like to base my opinions and points on FACTS. So let's take just a little time to look at some information I have gathered.

Some food for thought: 2004 Yamah R-1 comes stock (and the bike in the video isn't stock but what the hey let's assume it was) The bike has 180hp and only weighs a mear (sp?) 379lbs. So to put that into perspective in regards to hp to weight ration when compared to the 600hp Miata weighing in @2529lbs

So @ a glance

R-1 HP: 180 WT: 379lbs
Miata HP: 600 WT: 2529lbs

So let's do some math here

If the R-1 had 600hp then I would need to mulitply it's weight by 3.33 to get its simulated weight when comparing it to the Miata right? I got this number by taking the 600hp of the Miata and dividing it by the 180hp of the R-1 and it equaled out to be 3.3333333333. So I take 379lbs and multiply it by 3.33 I get a simulated weight of 1,262lbs .07 oz's. So without doing anymore math we can clearly see that a STOCK R-1 is smoking the HELL out of the Miata as it has half the horsepower to weight ratio.

Simply put if the bike had 600hp keeping the weight even with that ratio it weights only about 1,200lbs amazing isn't it. So in my world (the world of facts and science although sometimes my math is bad :) ) It is very impressive when a car can keep up with a killer street bike.

PS if I did any math wrong please excuse me and feel free to correct me.

WL you know of which you speak. The Suzuki Hayabusa (we call em Gixers) is a 1300 cc (1299) and is 480lbs with just a little over 200hp stock and yes it can run in the 5's in said condition. If you want I can find the link to the 380hp turbo charged Hayabusa but Kwong probably has seen much better.

Just looking at one site for supras...here's a small list of some that would probably smoke an R1. Keep in mind, that's just supras. I'm sure all of them can do 65mph burnouts. Now imagine if you were to bring in some V8 dragsters, fully built RX7's..maybe some lingenfelter corvettes...or some twin turbo vipers.

For the average car, yes being able to beat an R1 is amazing, but it's really not THAT uncommon. There's plenty of cars that can beat an R1.
