Hi I have been told that the 52t spur gear improves acceleration as opposed to the 49t. I stripped a spur gear on saturday and wondered if buying this instead of the 49t would improve the accelerationof my Savage 25. would I need a new clutch bell aswell? Thanks.

You are correct, it will improve acceleration with a slight loss in top speed. No new clutch bell needed, but you will be limited with how large a CB you can run due to space.

Here's an old gearing chart of what fits:

They don't have the 46T spur on there... so it's a bit aged.

According to it though, stock gearing for the savage 25 is 15/49. According to that chart, 15/52 fits. It should help with your acceleration quite a bit, but you will probably loose some top speed.

I currently run the 15/52 combo. To say you'll see a slight loss in top speed is misleading, it is a noticeable amount. Acceleration is better and if you want wheelies, it'll help with that too.
