Ok new to the SCT off road racing. I had a 2wd for about 2 weeks ran in fine got a deal on a 4x4 and sold the 2wd.

May local track is hard packed clay. After a few heats they wet the track down a little esp in the corners. But after a while its back to hard slick clay.

The 4x4 guys run like champs compaired or 2wd but you would expect that.

So my school me on batteries

I'm getting the 4x4 with the Velineon motor and traxxas ESC

I know everyone loves lipo
but if I wanted to run a Nimh battery what would I need?

I practice alot cause the track is close to my house and I would prefer practicing with the nimh bat and possibly run the lipo on race days or is this just a crazy thing to do?

What other hop-ups are you all doing to the 4x4's

you will get much more run time out of the lipos, plus their much lighter, and you will get more punch out of the lipo. If your really set on running NiMh, what is the max volts your track allows? 7.2, 8.4, maybe even 9.6? if your track runs 2s only youll be alright, if your track allows for 3s, just get the 3s because the performance is that much better vs NiMh.

I highly recommend LiPos, to get performance anywhere close to that out of a NiMh you will need to spend pretty close to what a LiPo costs to buy a matched pack. Plus. like TAC said, there is significant weight savings involved with LiPo.

As far as hopups, you can't go wrong with the Traxxas aluminum goodies: rear hub carriers, front c-hubs, and steering blocks. Also a good idea to pick up the sway bar kit, at least for the front. If your truck doesn't have the big bore aluminum shocks and you would like them, shoot me a PM. I have brand new set that I haven't raced yet. I'll sell them for considerably less than what the store price is.

You should practice with the same type of batts you plan on racing with.

Ya thats kinda what I figured I should practice and race with the same power.

For the track we just have a stock and mod class of SCT's last weekend we had 12 SCT's 2 4x4 and the rest were slash, blitz, and SC10

So I should just get a 3s/ Lipo? What brand are you all runnnig? where is the best place to get em ??

The sway bar kit is that good to run on rough clay tracks even if its only on the front? I was reading one of those RC mags that stated sways are good for flat tracks.

Let me know about the sway bar its somthing else I can look into!
