I just bought a new complete steering kit from a 4908 maxx and a new hitec servo and my question is will the servo saver from the newer 4908 work well or should I replace it with a upgrade.

If it's the new design with the buil5 in saver (like 1/8 buggies and the like), then the servo saver on the servo is not necessary, you just need a solid servo horn. It will just create excess slop in the steering. That's why they finally (after many years) built one into the steering assembly. Less slop and longer life.
