OK. Finally put my savage rear diff back together. I used (2) ofna cross pins, ofna 3000 wt oil (filled only to bottom of pins), and (2) packs of the hard-to-get-these-days HPI bevel gear set.

It all seemed to go together great. Wasn't even any parts left over. Then I tryed to spin the rear wheels. The back left wheel is stuck. It's free through the dogbone, but stuck at the diff.

Under power, the truck can spin 3 wheels freely when picked up. If I put it back down, it just bogs.

What do you think I messed up? I have a bad feeling I will need to go back in there.

Dr BlueRidge1 to surgery STAT. You'll need to go back in and look. Always test before you put the whole thing bcak together. Each step along the way too.

I agree with El P here take it down when you get the time you will need to completely tear it apart. I couldn't possibly guess how it would be stuck. But a tear down is in order. When I did my diff mod I made sure all of the gears spun freely before even putting on the big ring gear. Even after that I made sure they all spun freely. Sounds a little weird that one side is stuck though.

Yup. Tomorrow night I guess. I spun the thing before putting it all back together, but I didn't test each of the 3. Lessons learned.

I thought it went way too well...

Way too well, it should have been a routine conversion honestly there is nothing hard about it. Did you clean out the diff cups very well?? It is definately possible if you didn't that a piece of one of the old gears is stuck in the gears and binding them or something of that nature. Also there could be a pin loose floating around too. Let us know what happened I'm interested now

Well couldn't wait. It wasn't so bad. As soon as I popped the bottom skid plate off she started spinning freely. I looked for any potential binding, didn't see any. Put the skid plate back on screw by screw, rotating the tires with each screw.

When I hit the last screw, she locked up. I was using a long screw in the wrong place! It was hitting up against the output diff cup. Gees.

You know, I got a pretty good feeling about how the parts go together. But the long screw vs short screw thing is always a pain when you have a handful of assorted ones.

Man that sucks - you do all that work and it comes down to a simple overlengthed screw! Grrrrr!

Happy to hear you are back up and running in full action!

Yes. Nice to be back after looking at a pile of disassembled parts for almost a month.

I just ran her. Man, I like the 3000wt in the rear. She's just more agressive now in loose situations. Seems the occasional on road blasts would still be fine too. Nice happy medium.

I will do the mod on the front when it busts. This time I will have the parts ready.
