I'm wanting to go lipo in my old E Maxx and wanted to run my setup by you folks to make sure I won't have any safety issues. I run mainly on grass, which you all can imagine leaves me a small gearing window for getting decent performance, without any melt downs. I'm running 12t Titians, geared 18/72(stock's 18/66) with 5.25" tall tires(stock chevrons are 5.75"). My batteries(3800 6 cell Tenergys) and esc(evx 2) barely get warm. The motors get warm, but I can hold on to them forever after a full run and never get burnt or even uncomfortable. Would this setup be a good starting point for lipos? I'm figuring that it should be plenty safe, just because my nimh's don't seem to be stressed at all. I'll go with at least 5000mah, 25c lipos. What do you guys think? Edit: The batteries do get a little warm with a lot of full throttle running. Really, I wouldn't want them any warmer. Figured I'd throw that little bit of info in here.

You talking 3s? 4s? more or less? As long as its a good high discharge then you should be good. The motors would be what Id be worried about going first depending on how they like the voltage (depending on what setup you go with).

Well, 4s2p would max out the voltage limit. I was figuring on just 2, 2s packs. I need to throw a cutoff in the mix as well. On the evx 2, if you plug in a battery to just one of the inputs, it's gotta be the right one, the esc will turn on and the steering will work for a few seconds. I believe that's the side I want to put the cutoff on. I remember reading that on here a couple years ago. Correct me if I'm wrong...Turnigy or Zippy packs? Seems that you get a little more mah for the buck on the Zippys.

my turnigy 2s packs were dirt cheap at hobbyking (when they are in stock)

I know bro. It just seems silly to buy anymore nimh packs these days. I'm pretty confident that with the nimh's handling the load I'm putting on them, some 30c lipos won't even be fazed. Then I have them when I step up to a nice, newer brushless rig.
