Hey guyz,
Just got finished breaking in xtm 247 pro.

I have added the shim needed for the head, gotten spare plugz needed for this, and odonells 30% nitro.

I heard that i am going to have to richen the motor?? Is this because with 30% nitro it will run a little hotter?? And do i also run it at the temps i was running at when i ran my 20%??

230 degrees, somewhere around there??

Thanx

I thought it was the opposite... I know there are a few people here that know the answer, but i don't... c'mon guys, help him out.

Make sure you get it straight, I have heard both hotter and cooler. I am told it has more to do with the oil content though.

30% will run cooler then 20% oil content being the same.

I used to run byron's race 30% with 12% oil
I switched over to wjite lighting 30% with 8% oil

my temps droped abot 10 degres and my bottom and top end improved.

the whole thing about oil content is like fuels there are different grades of oils, higher quality oils work better so you don't need as much.

Does anybody know what the oil content is in 30% odonells nitro?? Because the bottle doesn't say anything about how much oil content, i know that it is good to have more oil to help save ur motor, but all i know is that everyone at my track runs odoneels and they like it, so???

Thanx

I didn't see it answered, or maybe I'm blind, but you will need to richen your settings moving up in nitro %. I just went from 20% to 30% in my buggy and had to richen it quite a bit to get smoke and keep the temps down.

There is no "DO THIS", all fuels are a little different. Tune to temp, and smoke. Leaving it a little rich while you run a break in tank or two for your new fuel is OK. It is hard for anyone to say what you should do B/C all fuels are not the same, and location plays a big role in tuning. Personally I had to lean when I went to 30%

Do yourself a favor.....RICHEN THE NEEDLE 1/2 to 1 full turn when u switch. It's not like you'll damage the motor when u RICHEN!

As for oil content of O'donnels...the old timer @ the local HobbyShop said he'd heard it was really high...and really low. But he figured it was pretty low cause they wouldn't want to scare anybody away by printing it on the bottle....makes sence to me

Actually, i was able to lean it out quite a bit. And it is still running rich. The oil content is 18%, i was suprised that it has this much oil content. I also found out that the oil Odonells uses is special and helps keep the motor well lubricated better. It made a huge difference going to 30%, I'm happy.

Don't be taken in by the marketing BS, every glow fuel manufacturer claims that their oil/additive package is "special". :preachin:

18% is quite a high oil content. Is this a "sport" or "race" formulation that you are using? The 25% nitro "race" fuel that I use has no more than 12% oil. If you have gone from a ~10% oil blend to an 18% oil blend then it is no surprise that you have had to significantly lean out the carb settings.

mxboy....where did u find that info on the O'donnels...I've heard rumors of both...but wanna see it in writing somewheres

Umm, go to towerhobbies and check on the odonells there. Because it doesn't say what the oil content is on the actual bottle, which is what i thought to be weird. But, i was really suprised when i started it up and it was only running 170 degrees when i was running 236 on 20 % dynamite. It was also blowing out tons of blue smoke.

Weird stuff!!
